[7-12-11][ROM] gingerbread-hero-deck [1.2.1][2.3.4 Stable]

Hey all. Been a while since my last release of anything, which was sense based, but I really wanted to start learning android and have a better perspective of it. I decided to dig a bit more into compiling android. Started horsing around with github and learned to start compiling my own builds from aosp wih the help from cmsrc, evervolv, and a few others githubs. Since the release of gingerbread to aosp, i moved away from sense. There are things that i do miss about sense, but the usability of the phone without it is just unmatched imho. Many people use or have used cyanogenmod. IMHO is a great open source project that has some of the best devs out there. I have always been more into the 'vanilla' look opposed to the themed and aftermarket. Recently i have been compiling gingerbread for the evo and mt4g and have had nothing but the best reviews. Basically the reason why i am here. Wondering if there was any interest in a few of my builds. Main reason from moving away from CM6/7 (cyanogenmod), ADW launcher and the extra added bloat(sorry) and themes. Battery life will always be one of my main concerns. Everything should work!

Don I just tried freecaddie on this rom and ran fine for maybe 10 minutes but once the screen was off for 2 minutes....reboot.

So this rom seems to be plagued with gps reboots like many of the others.

But other than that this rom is performing quite nicely for me. All the cm settings are there and seems much like aospcmod.

Yep,that is where the issue seems to be is when the screen goes to sleep, reboots start, I would like to know if CM 7 does also, I will test also on the weekend, I will also mention it to KDeck to see if he can figure it our

I am on CyanogenMod 7 right now. I downloaded the apps and I did not experience a reboot when turning off the screen.

Your mileage may vary, but CyanogenMod 7 seems solid GPS wise. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the update, I was talking with LBP last night in the IRC, and when I tried this Rom, I had done a full wipe, and then played with it a little, then once done I decided to do another full wipe, and then simply restore my Nandroid of the AOSP 2.3.4 and then I used my Frontier Golf GPS lite yesterday and it did not reboot, so go figure. I will try it again next week, I was simply going to flash a rom and install only my Golf GPS apps on it, and when I go play golf, simply Nandroid to the 2.1 with those apps and then Nandroid back when done, talk about being a diehard, LOL. But so far it is working if it reboots again that is what I am going to do. next.

Don I flashed the new update. Tried free caddie right off the bat. Took 10-15 minutes of screen off before the reboot. Still seems like a very nice rom but no better than aospCMod IMO.

So if I want VVM do I really need to flash the new ROM or can I just flash the new Gapps? (stupid question?) I (for now:D) have my current ROM set *just* the way I like it...

Actually it appears you can on some roms. What rom are you using? I'm running aospCMod and I rebooted to recovery wiped cache and davlik cache then flashed the gapps with vm. I booted up it took a little bit but I have voicemail and I tested it and it works. I still get the text notification but the vvm application has it also and plays it.

It does not pull up old voicemail but any new ones show up.

You can block that text notification. Just blacklist the number it comes from with Handcent SMS. :)

I helped a friend do that because he still uses Sprint Visual Voicemail. I can also confirm that it worked on mine until I switched to Google Voice that is. ;)

Yea I have it blacklisted just unblacklisted it to see if I still got the notification.

And I also loaded it in jaybob's rom on a fresh install and it worked. I just wasn't sure if I could flash over another gapps with just a cache and davlik cache wipe but I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm also running aospCmod 20110421 so I'll have to give that a shot. As for the text, I use Handcent so it is super easy to add 9016 to the blacklist. I'll give it a shot and report back. Thanks guys!

Just so you know 40oz there is a 5/23 release of aospCMod that you could flash with clearing the caches also the rom has gotten a little better since 4/23. Obviously nandroid first but you might as well be on the latest and greatest.

Wipe Cache and Davlik, and then flash, you may need to re flash your Gapps some say they are having issues, so if you are having issues with Google apps re flash the Gapps

I was on version 1.2"w" and gonna upgrade to 1.2"x". Do I need to reinstall rom and gapps again or can I just flash the updated rom? Also should I be wiping any caches beforehand?
