White iPhone vs EVO 3D Story

I was at work when I decided to call out my friend who just purchased an unlocked iPhone 4 in white. He had a black iPhone 4 but I know he didn't feel relevant since I have a 3D phone and Apple didn't put out a phone or iOS for fansheep of Apple. Anyway, when my friend pulled out his white iPhone I said why are you pulling out your girl phone for everyone to see. Everyone laughed, especially the ladies in the office. My friend attempted to insult my EVO 4G so I immediately pulled the EVO 3D from my cargo pocket. Next thing I know the women are like can we see the 3D? Their request quickly silenced my friend as he tried to talk about the EVO 4G.

People watched some of the Green Hornet and they were amazed at the 3D. I haven't showed the 3D content to my friend in order to make him thirst for it. My friend was over the shoulder of one lady trying to view the movie. She was 50 years old and she loved the phone and could see the 3D with prescription glasses on. My friend was over her shoulder saying I can't see the 3D and who cares about 3D. I was LMAO.

The 3D is a knockout. Glad I read this forum before buying the phone! Thx guys/gals!

I agree...I originally purchased the phone with the "3D is just a gimmick" mentality, and was only looking forward to the other specs such as the qHD display and the 1.2Ghz dual core processor. But after playing around with the phone and viewing the 3D pictures and videos and seeing the quality, I must admit that I am thoroughly impressed by it. Now whenever people say, "oh the 3D sucks, or its just a gimmick" I let my phone do the talking. :)

Good job 1uping your friend. And extra points for for him being an apple fanboy!

I work in an IT shop where there are two schools of thought... iPeople and the Android people. A year ago only I and one other guy had Androids (both EVO 4G). Now the majority of us have EVOs, but I am the only one with the 3D. At first the other guys were talking about how they were going to stick with their 4Gs because the 3D is "too gimmicky. " Don't get me wrong, the 4G is still a great phone and my husband now happily uses it. After actually testing out my 3D though, many have changed their minds about it and there are some upgrades in the near future ;) As for the iPeople, well, there are only a couple left. I say to each his own. A person should have a device he is happy with. However, people really shouldn't criticize something until they experience it for themselves.

I forgot to mention the ladies in the office have iPhones and the 50 year old gave my friend a nice tongue lashing about 3D on the EVO. When the older generation can appreciate Android, we are moving in the right direction.

My friend asked me why I don't root? He learned some terms from me. I said my phone and the apps in the market do exactly what I need.

Haha as being one of the "older generation, " though not quite 50 yet, I have to agree with you! :D

I think we all got your idea in the first post about gender and the iPhone.

And the older generation may know more about Android than you know.

No idea what is coming next, but maybe try to not insult vegans or animal lovers on your next pass.

I wasn't offended... I thought it was amusing. My children think I'm from the Dark Ages. I remember thinking that 30 was old. :) My kids actually may be beginning to think I have a brain now since they now ask ME questions about their phones and rooting

I have nothing against iphones themselves, just ppl that think it is impossible for something to be better and put on the apple blinders. Thats what gets me.

My homie is one of those ppl. He is sooo pissed about me having a cooler phone (yes the COOLER part is what gets him). So after a week or so of trying to find a diss for the 3VO, the other day at the bar he goes "why did you bring an ipad to the bar"? (trying to poke at the size of the 3VO). I had a good laugh over it, then replied, "C'mon I have Flash on this thing, you know it's not an ipad" /conversation

Well, I'm old school, and would rather have fewer stereotypes when it comes to tech.

Assumptions hit where you least expect them.

Glad your kids are getting it.

I am the only woman who works in our section of our IT shop and because I still look pretty darned good and am a woman there have been some people whose assumptions... well... you know ;) I admit it used to irritate me but I see the humor in it now and have had many a good laugh over it. The guys just see me as a part of the team and have gotten a kick out of it when someone makes the mistake of underestimating my abilities :D

I understand exactly what you mean. Like I said, to each his own but IPeople tend to act all superior. The way I see it, if you have to tell people how "cool" it is, then it probably isn't. I don't go around flaunting my phone but if someone asks about it I'll show them and the phone speaks for itself. I messed around with a friend's iPhone and while it wasn't for me I didn't degrade it or try to point out why mine is better. By the way, not one person I've shown my EVOs to was not impressed... even some IPeople. :)

These things go in cycles. Not so long ago, women dominated IT departments. Later, PCs gained traction and Microsoft lowered the bar.

Glad you're giving the IT Crowd the what for - you go.

You opened the door on looks, and I trust you. Can't wait for the obligatory pics or it didn't happen comments. :D

I think a lot of people just like stuff that works and the iPhone has a deserved reputation for that.

Showing the Evo certainly has made a lot of converts, no doubt about it.

I feel the same way. I have nothing against the iPhone, and still think they are pretty cool. My two biggest complaints are the small screen and the iFans that believe there is nothing better than Apple.

my husband would prefer the iphone. we had the very first iphone that came out and i really didnt care for it, however, i love my ipod. before that when we were stationed in germany i was all about blackberry. after my little stint with the first iphone i went back to blackberry and stayed blackberry till my first android which was the epic. then i went to the evo and now the evo 3d and i couldnt be happier, in fact i told my husband i dont know what took me so long to switch. if sprint were to ever get the iphone my husband would be all over it. i'm not saying its bad but it just wasnt for me and playing with my sister's iphone 4 still doesnt do it for me. i got my mom to leave her ancient phone for a blackberry (when i was still rocking one myself) and i'm pretty sure i can get her to go android lol...

There are Android people who act all superior, as well. I don't like the fanboys, either, including Android fanboys.

But yes, I also let the tech speak for itself. Everyone wants to check out the 3D screen, because it's still in it's infantile stage and is 'new'. I don't think anyone that isn't a geek could care about how fast it is in relation to other phones, because it's not a drastic change.

But after using 3D for a bit, I could see it catching on with smartphones, especially after AT&T gets theirs and if VZW eventually adopts a 3D handset. I've been playing NOVA 3D (never played the non-3D version) and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoy the depth in a game.

My husband could care less about phones... he says all it needs to do is get and send calls and emails and texts. Since he's using my previous EVO 4G he is doing a little more. I tell him that a great phone is a terrible thing to waste. :D

Apple and their iPhone has done a lot to advance the industry forward, constantly innovating and forcing Android mfrs to catch up. They have been the first to introduce many new features that have since become standard on Android phones, including the digital compass, the multi-axis gyroscope...

Without Apple constantly competing, Android wouldn't nearly be as good as it is today -- and over a year after the iPhone 4 introduction, it still has a ways to go.

We probably wouldn't have qHD screens as quickly (thank the Retina display for making pixel density an issue, and we haven't met it yet), the iPhone 4's digital camera is better than pretty much any Android phone in production (except perhaps the Sony Arc, yet unreleased in the US over a year after the iPhone 4's introduction), the iPhone had much better video and audio codec encoding until recently, the iPhone 4 with it's underclocked (800Mhz A4?) still has a vastly smoother UI than a dual core 1.2Ghz Android 2.3.3 device... the list goes on.

I don't think I'll ever own an iPhone (for a variety of reasons, both practical and philosophical), but I sure as hell respect it.

Bottom line, competition benefits us, the consumers. So does choice. If one chooses Android, great. Same for those who choose iphones. I am open minded but please respect one's choice. I see it on here all the time within the Android community itself. Great if you want the "pure" Google experience. I happen to like my gimmicky EVO 3D and Sense. We are all different, which is why there are so many different phones out there.

I'm just happy that a LOT of the "3D is gimmicky" talk went away after the phone's release. My phone gets a lot of attention and is a great conversation starter. People are really interested in the dual cameras and want to see the 3D screen. "How can it do that without glasses?"

And I've taken a lot of 3D photos (that I wish Picasa would support so I can share with you guys) that make people's jaw drop. I'm totally sold on the 3D content creation even if right now, not a lot of programs/viewers support it. One day they will. I'm planning to leave the switch on 3D permanently.

Isn't this how technologies go from fringe/first adopters to mainstream? People make content for the new stuff and slowly people get more and more interested into it until it is mainstream. Then the next technology rolls around.

As for the photos, can't you host them on a file sharing site? And after I hit submit, I'm going to look around on picasa's site for a suggestion box to see about telling them to start allowing 3D pics.

Edit: I have forgotten how counter-intuitive Google's help area can be.
