Root [Guide]ROOTING HTC android 2.2.1 or lower with unrEVOked - Windows (updated 20th December 2012)

well that one is from my host and it should work fine as many people download it
you could try this one
Shipped ROMs

if that doesnt work try the RUU (run from the pc with the device connected
Shipped ROMs

again you didnt say what problems you encountered when trying to downgrade

I have now got the shipped roms download taken the other one off the card and replaced.
After this i turned phone off, then held vol down + power and on comes hboot
this then flashes green writing saying cannot find image and then no more happens, if i then click down to refresh bootloader same happens, where is it i have gone wrong. i have followed the instructions over and over re reading them many times.

Maybe i can try running from pc with phone connected how do i do this ?
when downgrading (trying) all seemed to go well but when it got to the end i got these instructions and didnt know what to do

wait for boot screen
press power to select bootlaoder option
wait for recovery image to be loaded+ checked
press vol up to start update.

So i just rebooted and there was no change to the phone.

these are the instuctions i have followed them again and again only when my phone boots using them it goes to HBOOT not bootloader.

all you have to do is put the file on the root of your sdcard, boot to bootloader (voldown + power) and accept the prompts

Oh and im a woman not a man :)
whether you are a woman or a man makes no odds :p he can be rhetorical as human :p

anyway bootloader is hboot
for example if you boot the phone holding back + power that will take you to fastboot (which will look like hboot) it will give you an option to click bootloader and that will take you to hboot

Ok i understand this, and i have also done this and still get same issue.

Are there any other ways for me to get this phone downgraded so i can root it ?

i dont know, you should be able to downgrade. i found it easy to do and when it got to the section where it was for voldown to accept etc i did it and it loaded a red bar up the side.
this has worked for many many people so either you are doing something wrong or your device is doing some random stuff that cannot be recovered

are you from the uk? where abouts?

Its really throwing me, im not major pc illiterate and can follow things normally quite easily, but i really have tried with this and i have had to walk away today as i need a break from it. I have not seen any red bars up the side, wish i had.

ahh too far from me and SUroot. were leeds
i cant really help you much further as i cant see the device screen or what your pc is doing.
i know the downgrade will prompt you to accept the prompts during the flash on the device
just out of interest, you are running the downgrade tool when booted into android right?

i dont doubt you know your way around a computer, i hope you were not offended by my comment its just hard to judge whats going on as at least it should throw an error in the downgrade tool if its not working.

No not offended, im grateful for any help given , just wish i could sort it out. When you say booted into android , I was connected to the pc but the phone was on charge only ( i think) i did try the downgrade a couple of times.
I even deleted the files from pc rebooted and started from beginning in case i got an off download, but still no joy. I found a NOOB guide on XDA this morning [Video Tutorial] Noob Proof Everything Desire Guide UPDATED [04/04/11][Video Tut] - xda-developers, i may give this a go, only thing is it doesnt mention when to make a gold card?

If i ever succeed i will make sure i come back and update you both.

make sure debugging is enabled and windows sees the device as an adb interface under android in device manager before using the downgrade utility

Hi guys,

I have m HTC Desire for 8 months now and I am extremely satisfied with it. I decided to root it and followed all the steps explained in the firts post. It worked perfectly well and got to the black screen with green letters and I chose the first option Reboot. Since then, the screen of the phone went black but not dead. Is it normal? How long does it take? Have I made a mistake?

when you chose reboot did you use power to chose or did you use the trackpad?
power only turns off the screen it doesnt choose reboot

Yeap, I used the power button to chose and after I posted here I managed to get it back the Desire into normal mode.

I think I have successfully rooted the phone because I have the superuser permission icon on the applications drawer.

Can somebody please now guide me what to do next properly?

How to back up the data? Which ROM to use?

Much appreciated.

Thank you.

Have you read the root faq linked in.post 1?

Yeap, so from what I understood I guess this is the next step to take:

So (based on clockworkmod recovery):

1) download you chosen ROM onto SD card
2) Do all your backups
3) Boot into recovery manually (see recovery section earlier)
4) Choose "wipe data / factory reset"
5) Choose "Install zip from SD card"
6) Once complete, choose "reboot system now"

OK first of all, UNINSTALL ROM MANAGER ;)

Seriously though, UNINSTALL ROM MANAGER!!!!!

Have a look at Teppic74's rooted stock GB...

Maybe a good place to start. Rooted stock with a2sd+....

[ROM] [20/08] Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1) [Optional Mods] - xda-developers

Thank you very much my friend. Much aprreciated. I will try this at home tonight.

How do I back up via Titanium back up? Do I have to back up every single application separately? Is there a way to mark all at once and back up? Do I perform the back up via Titanium before flashing the ROM or after? I am so sorry but I am a real rookie on this subject.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

And, I've uninstalled ROM manager as instructed.

Yeap, I did it already. So now the next step would be to manually back up all the contents of the SD card right? And I am good to go? Do I need to make any SD card partition or that's not necessary?

When do I copy the ROM into SD card? Do I need to have the USB cable connected to the PC all the time while I am flashing a ROM?

Thanks.
