Root Has anybody rooted using this tool?

You can try to Fix Permissions in ROM Manager.

Failing that, reboot into clockwork manually (volume down whilst powering on, then select recovery) and restore the backup.

Sorted:D Will deffo be staying with CM7 from now on, well at least untill ICS variant becomes available and youv'e tested it completly;)
Thanks again mate.

NP's

I knew you'd end up back with CM7 eventually, I just didn't think it would be that quickly. :p

If it's any consolation, I didn't have a very good experience with ARHD when I tried either.

Finally got my DHD back from repair, the proximity sensor is working again. Unfortunately they wiped the phone, so what better time is there to do a hack and install a custom rom? :D

I'm trying the Ace Advanced Hack Kit tomorrow (with Ubuntu Live CD), and will then flash the latest MIUI Rom from miuiandroid.com.

I'll let you all know how it went down tomorrow.

Yeah, let us know mate. The Ace Advanced Hack Kit is a pretty good and user friendly tool for doing it.

Came home tonight, and just couldn't wait till tomorrow to try it out - so I give it a try.

Had an old Ubuntu Live CD laying around, so figured it was best to follow the advice, that this would be the safest way to success - and it was.

1 hour ago i booted the Ubuntu Live CD - now I'm running the latest MIUI Rom on my Desire HD.

Everything worked like a charm!

I only got nervous at one point where the terminal/command prompt communicated "error" during the hack - but 15 seconds later it was on its way again. It took less than 5 minutes.

The thing that lasted the longest was the ROM backup I did before flashing the MIUI ROM.

Wow, MIUI is sweet, now I'm gonna be up all night theming away, lol :D

Pleased for you mate. I used the hack tool to flash Cyanogenmod 7.1 and also got nervous at 1 point, but it was all good in the end. Enjoy your night theming:)

I also got that error when I used the tool, but I was on the guy's IRC channel at the time and was running it through with him (I was one of the European DHD 'Guinea Pigs' :p) and he said that that is normal and happens to most people. Did give me a bit of a fright though!

So i'm thinking about flashing a sense ROM just to check it out. Got a couple of questions if anyone can help me out.

1) Will any problems be caused by restoring apps from titanium backup on the new ROM, but then restoring my previous ROM to its original state? I asked something similar in another thread but just wanted to make sure there would be no major problems. Also will I have to backup all system data from CM7 and restore it again?

2) Will the fact that another ROM might use 4EXT be a problem when going from CM7? I don't really understand how that part works (file systems etc.)

1. Do you have the free or the pro version? If Pro, do it this way, then run the market doctor to restore their market links. If you're running the free version, you're best to let the apps download themselves from the market, then restore the data associated with them individually. The free version doesn't have the option to link back to the market so the non paid for apps might can disassociate themselves from your google account and they won't get updates etc. You won't need to backup system data (the important stuff should be tied to your google account), but obviously do a nandroid backup in clockwork before you flash the new ROM.

2. I'm not sure about this myself tbh, I know that certain ROMs will format the partitions to EXT3/EXT4 before hand. I know it won't cause issues as I did an EXT 4 Wipe via one of the automatic scripts a while back and it's never given me any gyp running CM7.

I just bought the pro version of TB, it was a bit of a pain last time having to restore everything one by one, so I think it's worth getting :)

That was the first thing I bought when I rooted... don't think it was too expensive for what it does and, like you say, I imagine it being a pain restoring each individually, rather than batch restoring!

Just flashed Virtuous Unity to check it out, but I didn't stop the market from reinstalling everything so it's taking ages :( Wish I didn't do that as I just bought TB pro and it would have been done by now!

Edit: Just realised you can stop the auto downloads from the market and I used the batch restore on TB so it's going ok now :)

I have a feeling i'll be back to CM7 in a couple of days :p

If I do go back to CM, can I backup all my apps on TB from when I was using VU and restore them back in a CM backup and they will be updated? Or is it just easier to flash CM7 again from scratch?

Hmmm I'm not really liking this ROM, It's been quite laggy and the battery life isn't fantastic. Guess I'm so used to the battery life on CM :p there are some parts if sense I really like though, the camera being the main thing, and the dialer is pretty good (go dialer is similar but not quite ad good). I reckon I might give miui a go while I'm in the mood for experimenting and will go back to faithful CM :)

....and i'm back to the land of CM :p

That was not a fantastic experience, the battery drain was pretty awful (although i'm sure I should have given it some time to sink in) and I swear it had more lag than my stock sense ROM.

The restore of my previous ROM worked fine, it was the first time I had used this function.

So i finally tried out a custom sense ROM, but they are definitely not for me, I remembered all the stuff I didn't like about sense :p

This MIUI camera is an ok alternative, you might want to give that a shot (attached)?

Unfortunately it didn't install, it came up saying 'Application not installed' when I tried. Unless I am not going about it the right way? (I was going through es file explorer and clicking the apk to get to the install page)

Yeah, I had a couple of MIUI Camera apks kicking about that gave that message. It looks as though I deleted the latest, working copy. There's a thread kicking about on XDA somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks Attn1, for all the info. But i already solved it yesterday. It appears that my Windows XP Home does not have a 'tasklist.exe'. Just to share with you all, you just need to download 'tasklist.exe' then put in system32 folder and run it. Then you can already run the Hack Kit.

I have ran the Hack Kit! It's superbly successful. Thanks again!!! Now flashing my new ROM ARHD 6.1, hehehe....

can you post where you got the tasklist.exe so i can download it please

edit:nvm got it

Purely going from your user name, are you sure this tool would work for you? The tool, as far as I am aware, is only for rooting the Desire HD... is the Evo the same phone with a different name? I know that there are a few variations with different names, just wouldn't wan you to ty the tool if it wasn't for your phone! :)
