Gmail notifications on Android even when delete/modify on PC

This started about one month ago on my Droid Incredible running Android 2.3.7. My Android Gmail App is version 2.3.5.2. Below is a link indicating other users began seeing this behavior about the same time. You would expect a notification on the mobile device when new email arrives, but not after you change something at gmail.com such as a delete, label, move, etc.

Has anyone solved this?

Do you have auto sync enabled? It could be, (this is just a hypothesis) that your gmail is set to sync when you get the email(s), and by the time that it notifies you, you have already changed the contents of said email(s).

Thanks. Yes auto sync is enabled, but that's not the issue. The previous version of the Gmail app didn't do this -- seems to be a new bug. Also I verified under settings there is no option to disable all Gmail notifications except for new emails.

Have you tried clearing the Gmail data / cache? I have the same Gmail version, but I don't have this issue.

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All tab > scroll to Gmail and open it > Clear Data.
