I used to be what you might call an "Apple Fanboy". Lost that around 2007. It's really disappointing the downward corporate spiral Apple has taken. It's not about innovation or creativity anymore, only the almighty dollar. And you can say it's just business, blah blah blah, but Apple used to be better than this.

Apple was never about inovation. They have always been about gouging as much money out of your pockets as possible while chaining you to their infrastructure. Look at how ipods were sold year after year with the only changes made being a memory boost., itunes downloads limiting you to five swaps within your device before having to pay for music that you already bought again, the simple fact that no icrap will work without itunes forget about drop and drag. The iphone there shining jewel not having basic cel phone features like sms at launch, people forget that it took them 3 tries before they released cut and paste!! These tiny incrimental bumps in software passing for new devices (look we added 3g, look now you can video record, now its faster, now you can send a pic). Apple took already existing tech and put a slight spin to it and sunk a crap load of money into advertising it as the be all end all of phones. Fine put now that they start to get a little competition they sue and have the audacity to say that others companies are stealing and not being inovative. I wish palm would get off its ass ans sue apple for lack of inovation and infringing on palms turf. And this thing with the patents apple is basically trying to infer that they invented touch screens and gesture controls, thats crap!! this is exactly why the Europians fought so hard against the patenting of ideas. ^&%* you apple i hope you choke on your rotten core. Oh and p.s. use another vowel i get it a few years ago you had this really cool product called the imac put now its ipod and ibook and ipad itunes and iphone excuse me while ithrow up

I don't disagree with most of this but I do disagree with your first statement the they were "never" about innovation. Not sure if you're old enough to remember Apple in the 80s and mid to late 90s (like us old fart Apple users) but they were, in fact, very innovative and very much about user creativity and freedom. That started to change after Jobs was fired and Apple almost lost their asses. When Jobs returned in 96 it seemed they were poised to revolutionize the PC industry and they did, but at the cost of the heart and soul that made them great 30 years ago. Now they just muscle technology off the backs of the real creative geniuses and call it their own. They no longer innovate and create for themselves.

Your right they were innovative in the early 90s i will give you that but im really talking about apple in the last 10 years or so, were theyve painted themselves as these new age tech gurus when there really just recycling old ideas and putting the apple spin on it to their benefit.

The only thing they ever "revolutionized" was giving a subset of their users self-satisfied smugness, more-money-than-sense elitism and providing the tech-illiterate an OS suited to their level of non-thought. And ultimately, Apple's success lies in marketing and trend-whores, not in their products.

Actually, according to Engadget, multi-touch isn't even a part of the lawsuit. Apparently, the patent on heuristics which initially included multi-touch, upon approval, was trimmed of that concept. What's left over from that particular patent is scrolling behavior which all Android phones are in violation of. The behavior in question is the phone's ability to recognize how you're scrolling say a webpage. If you're scrolling up-down, the software locks the screen in that 1-D scroll (i.e. up-down), no matter how your finger is moving on the screen. If you're scrolling side-side, the software locks the screen in that 1-D scroll (i.e. side-side). However, if you move your finger in an angle, it will allow a "free scroll" with no lock-out. Go ahead test it. Our devices are in violation of that. But no MT/P2Z supposedly, according to Engadget.

Well, that's not even the worst of it. Apple patented virtually every slide to lock/unlock gesture possible to answer a phone; this patent was granted on Feb. 2 of this year. They also patented the phone's ability to sense when it's close to your face and not, locking out the touchscreen to prevent errant inputs. But they got really detailed by including kind of device, kind of sensors, etc.

Compiled in those 20 patents are some patents that are 10-20 years old. Some of those patents are quite strong, and some are quite general. Some are both. After Jobs returned, many of the patents' language got more specific and detailed. In that way, Apple may not have innovated a specific technology, but they submitted a patent for it specific to... say, mobile devices (like the iPhone). Subsequently, that old idea was a new idea. Now they have the patent.

LOL. Apple didnt invent anything phone wise. Nokia and the other original phone companies pretty much own all the phone related patents, with screen and camera stuff belonging to others like Kodak.

I did see a blog with all the patents Nokia and Apple are fighting over (almost all owned by Nokia), but guess what? The blog post vansihed...
