Any other calendar?

Is there any other calendar app for G1? I hate the gmail calendar. I had a Palm T|X and that calendar had colored blocks for different people. Like if I had work, I had a gray block, if it was personal there was a purple block. If it was my daughter a yellow block, if it was one of my grandparents dr. appts then there was an orange block, etc. I could look at the whole month and see what was going on which whom without having to click on the day to specifically see what it was. I have both mine and my mom's gmail calendars on my phone and it's all green blobs. I don't know which days she needs me to do something and which days I have something or what days my daughter has something going on . It's irritating. I like to be really organized. Is there any other calendar alternative?

You can configure calendar colors. I have several calendars and each one has a different color. These colors are configured on the web and the synced to your phone

I have been all over the google calendar in the options and settings and everything else and I can't see how to change the colors. Now if I'm actually at a computer in Gmail, my calendar events are blue and my mom's are red. But in my phone it's all green and lumped together. How do I change the color blocks on the phone?

AFAIK colors on the month calendar cannot be set on the phone. Other views honor the color settings. Major annoyance for now, but I assume that this will be updated some time.

I sure hope so. In the mean time is there any other calendar app that I could use instead? I got the colors on the various calendars I had to create, but it does nothing on my phone except in the agenda view. Boo hiss. I'd hate to carry my Palm with my phone. I hate carrying more than I need.

Take a look at PureCalendar (Pure Calendar widget - xda-developers) and PureGridCalendar.
PureCalendar is a widget that allows you to view your next events, showing calendar colors. There is a lite and pro version. For me, por version it is a must have.

I also use calendars as categories. However I still miss my Pocket Informant

All on my g-mail account. On my desktop it's great. I can tell what event is what category just by the color I've applied to it.

But the color scheme doesn't carry over to my phone's calendar (android G1).
This is a MAJOR frustration. I can barely make sense of my calendar on the phone because it is so cluttered. I'm a busy guy, but like many others here, I NEED to be organized.

The lack of color coding kills it for me.

Android is great, but how did the google team overlook such an elementary function like this. Color coding on calendar events. C'mon......Outlook was doing this in 1995.

The best calendar app I've found is Calendar Pad (PRO). It correctly shows the colors of each calendars events with text. It's not pretty, but it works.

Found this on another site and it worked:

On the web-based Google calendar, you have to pick colors for your calendar from the bottom three rows of colors. The top two rows of colors don't sync with Android's calendar and default to red.

I tried it and it worked! Sure, it makes not sense, but at least it's better than every calendar being the same color.

I almost returned my Droid 2 when I discovered how poor its native calendar is. The biggest problem I had with the Google calendar (and all of the third party Calendar apps I was able to find) is that they only allow calendar grids of 30 minute increments. Most of my appointments are 15 minutes long and, when I import them from MS Outlook into Google, they become squashed into an illegible blob. Worthless.

I finally found Pocket Informant, a free Calendar app that allows 15 minute time grids. So far, it seems like an excellent calendar alternative. Very customizable. It also allows the kind of color coding the OP described.
