WiFi Not....WiFi'ing?

So I can connect to a WiFi connection with my phone.
And I have a widget that tells me how much upload/download is done via WiFi and how much is via my mobile network.
So I know it's doing something.
However....
I had my service cut off recently (apparently you're supposed to pay your bill now. Who knew?) and I found that while my network access was cut off, I couldn't even access the internet on my mobile via WiFi.
My mum has a Galaxy III and she was able to access the internet via WiFi whilst we were down (she's on my plan).
I checked my settings, but couldn't see anything that could be changed.
I had planned to give this phone to my daughter when I upgrade (soon hopefully) so she could use it as a mini-tablet - download apps via the WiFi and check her mail....just no phone or texting services (not yet anyway).

So some people say they can do this.
Some say they can't.

I'm on Rogers Wireless.
It's an Xperia X10
It's Android 2.3.3.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/info?

I am on Rogers. Xperia x10, 2.3 and I have no SIM card in my phone and I can go on WiFi even in Airplane mode.

If you can scan for Wireless networks and you see the Wifi icon appear, then wireless works.

If it can't connect to your router, restart your router....yes, even if other things connect to the router properly. Home routers are junk and sometimes they will just reject a particular device until the router is restarted....and it only takes like 30 seconds to do.

I have a wifi connection set up.
And I've rebooted my router a few times recently (poxy Rogers crap) and it made no difference.
When I go into Airplane mode, nothing works - not my Gmail or Facebook apps, or my internet connection.

Any other thoughts?

What type of security does your router use?
Try turning security off and testing to see if connects.

If you can't connect to your router, or another router (try at a friends or a cafe with wifi) If you can scan and see the SSID, then it should be able to connect.

If you can't then you will probably have to reflash the phone and reinstall the OS on the phone.
