Ok guys I have a note 2 and used Foxfi on my last android with no issues. On this phone when I got to use my Foxfire app it pulls up my phones mobile hotspot. Is this just letting me know that I'm using my foxfi app or is it really using the built in app so that verizon can track it?

Is FoxFi actually working for you? I'm on Sprint & it gives me some message about hotspot not being included in my plan.

i dumped foxfi for Portable Wifi Hotspot. It connects faster, IS FREE, and is dead simple to use. Foxfi is last year's darling hot spot app. this year, it sucks. It's no longer free unless you consider the ultra limited use the free version has...

I didn't know about this app! I see there's a free version & .99 version. What's the difference? And do you know of anyone on Sprint having success with it?

**update** This doesn't seem to work with the Sprint version either. Same error message I got with Foxfi. :-( It seems that Sprint has blocked these apps from working on their phones. Bummer! http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/660122-sprint-blocked-all-hot-spot-apps.html

it's only using the foxfi, but it has some way of opening up the app so that it runs thru the phone, but doesn't register as mobile hotspot, I use foxfi too sometimes when I'm in need of internet on my laptop and I'm not at home, I purchased the full version, definitely worth the $7.

Ok thanks. I upgraded already before I switched from my RAZR to my note, definitely worth the $7 or whatever it was that it cost. I use the wife app for when I'm at work and need to use my laptop for a bit. I just wanted to make sure that's all that was going on with it. Thanks.

I had a droid razr which was rooted and used SQlite editor and changed a setting in a db that allowed me to use Verizon's Mobile Hotspot without the data use being counted against my data plan. Which was great while traveling in the van so my family could tether to my phone.

on my Note 2 on Verizon using Foxfi-what is free? I have the shared data plan so using Verizon's Mobile Hotspot is free and the data is being tallied against my shared data.

1. If I use Foxfi will the data still be tallied on my plan?

2. Does Foxfi bypass my data plan?

Some clarification as to what is free using Foxfi.
Thanks!

FoxFi went to hell in a hand basket when they decided it should be a pay app, was great when free. Go figure you have a great app for free and decide you should get paid for it so turn it into a useless piece of junk then charge for it.

I switched to Portable WiFi Hotspot based on info found here several months ago and it works very good. Verizon user and no problems.

Yes, FoxFi still works in 4.1.2. Just last week, I was using it with my phone as a hotspot & was testing streaming video from a video camera (JVC GY-HM650U with a WiFi Adapter) to my Nexus 7 & was controlling the camera with the N7 as well.

Okay then I have a question, since you said it still works in 4.1.2 version but here's the problem, when I started up Foxfi, the Verizon's native mobile hotspot icon pops up on the notification bar, what is the meaning of this? will I get charged if Verizon detects I started using Foxfi or? is there a safe way?

I hadn't connected in so long, but just for you, I went through and tried it with my Note 8. Foxfi kinda works using bluetooth, but not wifi. The connection is a little unstable and not as strong as when the wifi was working, but just wanted you to know that it does work somewhat.

Back when I had the Photon, it worked perfectly! I actually preferred connecting my laptop via USB, whenever I needed to tether, but I remember it working flawlessly with the Photon. I can't really blame Sprint for blocking the wifi tether though or any other OEM's for that matter. I think there are just too many people that take advantage of it and go overboard with use.

I want to know if anyone can confirm if Foxfi can work on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with Verizon on Jelly Bean 4.1.2? Because I tried to use Foxfi, the Verizon's native mobile hotspot pops up on the notification bar, so I don't want to get charged for anything or something...

I am a new N2 user, but had FoxFi w/ key on my Bionic. It auto downloaded to my phone when I activated it, on Verizon. I am still on the unlimited data plan. I turned off wifi on the phone, hit FoxFi to activate hotspot, and my laptop recognized it immediately. Download speed at 18 but upload was only 3 doing a speed test.

It works for me.

I have to say this, but this method is slick and seems very easy to undo.

NOTICE: do at your own risk! I am not responsible for anything that could go wrong!

I have done a lot of digging for this and I think it should have been easier to find.

1. Root with this method and use superSU not superuser.
Framaroot.

Very easy to do, load the app and click, all within the phone.

2. Download this modified version of wifi tether

3. Follow these steps to configure wifi tether
Step 1. Download and install the modified Wifi Tether app
You can use ES File Explorer to install the downloaded apk file

Step 2. Run the Wifi Tether app and choose
