Eris owners: R U switching? (incredible due 4/29!!)

There are three price points.

If you are eligible for New Every 2, the phone will be free (or you'll get it at a steeply discounted price).

If you aren't eligible for New Every 2, but are eligible for an upgrade, you'll pay what a new customer would pay if they signed a 2 year agreement (and you'll be committing to 2 more years).

If you aren't eligible for either of those, you'll pay full retail, which I expect to be around $500.

Im sure it will be more than $500 as the droid is like $570 so im sure the incredible will be around $599

I was one of the many who couldn't wait for 2.1 and so I installed the original leak. Now root comes out and I cant go back to 1.5 nor can I root my phone. If a solution isn't available by the Incredible release then I may bite the bullet and throw down the money for the big badass Incredible or maybe even a Nexus One. Would I be unwise to choose the Nexus over the Incredible??? I have compared the specs between the two and Im wondering if there is really that much of a difference (besides price) between the two.

They underclocked the processor to 768 to save battery life with the stock 1300. I'm wondering if that thin case will hold a 1750 or so, which is slightly fatter. I'm also wondering if the Snapdragon can be clocked back up to a gig.

I keep hearing about the 768MHz processor, but the leaked user's guide says it's 1GHz. I wonder if they're just glossing over the fact that it's been underclocked.

Yes, but torn. I really like the Eris' form factor. The size is great, and most things about it are as well, but they really cheated the poor thing with RAM. I honestly think that the CPU would be sufficient if there were more RAM. Helll, if we could store the apps direct to SD and free up that RAM it might even be the nudge it needs. I know that function is supposedly in the works for a future OS upgrade, but no guarantee the Eris will get it.

As for the Incredible, it's more RAM, faster processor, etc, etc. and only 4.5mm longer, and 3.0mm wider. I think that's a fair trade-off.

I doubt if the user guide is going to make reference to anything other than the maximum specs of the hardware in the device.

Reviews, however, are often a bit more "real world" in their approach:

New HTC Incredible Photos, Details - A 768MHz processor, Android 2.1 and Sense - Softpedia

Verizon Sets HTC Incredible Release Date To Two Weeks Time – SoftSailor

It sounds like it's plenty fast, though, going by comments around the review horn.

I was really wanting the Incredible, but I just bought an Eris two DAYS ago (bought it from someone local without resetting contract). I'm still on a very good Alltel plan so I'm going to try to hold out as long as I can. I still might sell the Eris and go ahead and upgrade my contract for the Incred... but so far I'm really impressed with the Eris after using an HTC Touch for 1.5 years (last few months on Android). It does everything I want. An led flash would have been nice but that's what I have 3 digital cameras for... Looking forward to the 2.1 official Eris update.

You can keep the Alltel plan and just extend your contract. Thats what we did. Didn't want to give up the 20 circle numbers we have.

Sticking with the Eris. For a long time probably.

Since the Eris was seemingly un-rootable (someone just leaked a Rooted PB00IMG.ZIP, no one actually figured out how to root it), I am only assuming the Incredible and newer HTC Android phones to be even TOUGHER to root.

Because it's very important to me, I'll be on my Eris for a LONG time. Eventually overclocking to keep it feeling fresh, somewhere akin to that 768mhz the Incredible has, and APPS2SD for all the apps I want.

Not having root = dealbreaker for me.

I for one will most likely give it at least a month of reading reviews and weighing pros vs. cons before making a decision.

I am going to give it a week before wirefly.com drops the price from (i`m assuming) $249 to $100! then i`ll get it an yeah...take a few days off (it`ll be summer almost...gotta go to the beach!) and play with it. i do know that after about a month i`ll want something else so..."the human ability to want is limitless!

Agreed. Now that the Eris has root and 2.1 I'm pretty happy with it. OCing will be the icing.

I see alot of people are contemplating the getting the Incredible and trying it for the 30 days. I also see concern about the restocking fee. I just picked up 2 Droids for myself and my wife at our local Costco for $99 each. They also gave me 90 days trial and no activation fees and no restocking fee. Thats just the way they do. They seem to get the top phones on the 1st day as well and run some great deals. They were offering the Devour for $29.99 just last week. Just an indication of what they have. They also pushed my renewal date up a month.

We're gonna have some sad people that do jump ship. I'm sure it'll be the same people that didn't do their research the first time around with the Eris which is why they're unhappy in the first place.

Stronger processor, more RAM, yet still, a 1300mAh battery? Wanna guess what else has crappier specs, gives you a headache, and the same battery?

Looks like Verizon is dropping the Eris next month.

No it's not. Do you have any evidence to back this up? Just because Verizon is launching the Incredible, it doesn't mean they are going to drop the Eris. There needs to be a balance in their phones.

High end - Incredible

Middle - Droid

Low End - Droid Eris

By the way, why would they drop the Eris when it hasn't even received 2.1 yet?
