Help Link Ringtone and Notification when using volume rockers

One huge pet peeve of mine with this phone is that when you use the physical volume rocker it only adjusts the ringtone, not the notifications as well. Besides rooting and running a custom rom that may have this feature, is there any way to fix this?

Also, has anyone had their phone on vibrate with headphones plugged in and the notification go off at max volume? - I was listening to music the other day. Had my volume set to vibrate only and the next thing i know, my text alert went off full blast in my ear.
