EVO V 4G Price Reduced

For me BB matched VM's internet price, I just took them the printed out material.

I can second this. Best buy was selling them for 249 and I got mine at christmas time for 129 as stated on the VM site. Just printed out a copy of the web page and showed them it.. They went online and checked the site to be sure.. and said okay here ya go!

I bought the Reverb first at $149.99, then the EVO went on sale for the same price. So I went back and swapped.

I've seen the comments so far in this thread. Let me tell you about my experience. I was a Blackberry user on AT&T until 3 1/2 years ago. I used an iPhone 3Gs for the past 3 1/2 years.

I upgraded from an iPhone 3Gs 16gb that was on AT&T for 2 1/2 yrs & then was on Straight Talk for the past year (when they started a sim program). It was using iOS 6.1.2 (the latest iOS). I sold it for $115 & bought the HTC Evo 3D 4G from Virgin Mobile for $149 (Sprint's No Contract carrier that uses the Sprint network) via Walmart.com. Here is a quick list of my observations (or the good & the not so good).

The Good

1. The phone itself comes with ICS (Android 4.0.3) and HTC's Sense 3.6 - the 1.2 GHz snapdragon processor is blazing fast. The UI & features are excellent. Google Maps allows for talking in an address and immediately looking up the address with street view showing the location (and giving directions). It just may replace my GPS (I bought a separate USB cradle for charging and it works great for sitting on a dashboard when docked). Action is smooth and the "live" weather background is like "dreamscene" in Windows Vista Ultimate with the clouds moving like you are flying. Awesome eye candy. The phone reception is strong (much better than iPhone & the AT&T network... at least in my area of Chicagoland).

2. The battery is the weakness, but I purchased the extended battery so this is not an issue (I got a Seidio SURFACE Extended Case with extended battery so it is thicker, but better protected). I prefer having a phone I can hold onto instead of it being super thin (it helps if the phone is dropped when combined with a rubber shell as the screen is less likely to shatter) so the extended battery and replacement back helps immensely.

3. The wifi is crazy fast, and 4G (wimax) is also fast (a huge difference when compared to 3G). I am hoping that the WiMax presently in place around the country doesn't go through downsizing while I use the phone for the next 2 to 3 years).

4. Skype video is awesome (who needs facetime????). :) Presently using Iris (Google Now is only available for Jelly Bean)..... :(

5. The ability to transfer from the old phone to the new phone regarding contacts and data via Bluetooth (and a wizard) is crazy good.

6. Very easy setup to Facebook, email, etc.

-------------------------------------------------

The not so good

1. The controls on the screen are very "touchy" and you have to hold the phone in a certain way to ensure it isn't going nuts opening apps/tasks).

2. The side mini usb port is poorly designed (it looks like it could break easily). I am just extra careful with it (versus the Apple port on the iPhone which is more durable).

Overall, a great phone for using for email/messaging, phone/voice calls, playing with apps, multi-tasking, etc. Much like a PC or laptop, I know this isn't like a VCR and "just works" when being turned on. I know when the O/S (Android) is having a hiccup, I just shut down / restart (when in doubt, reboot). I rarely have to do that (no more than I did with my previous iPhone). For the money, this is a HUGE bang for the buck (for $45 a month for unlimited data - unlimited messaging - and 1,200 minutes call time). And yes, I know Sprint throttles data.... but at the 2.5 GB point, I understand (which is why the Wi-Fi aspect helps keep that data usage down and I get fast speeds when I do need it).

I just hope HTC releases Jelly Bean for this phone......

Well, the RS sale ends today and I never found one in any of the RS stores or their website. And I checked several times every day from two days before the sale till today (over two weeks). They were OOS everywhere during the whole sale except for a couple places that had left-overs. No shipments ever came in for the sale. Also none of the Best Buys, Wal-Marts or Targets in this area had any. Wonder why they even put the phone in the sale flyer? I even called HTC direct and they were no help. They are not on the HTC website anymore so it is a discontinued phone I guess.

The only way to find one is as a left-over or used now. If any of you need to exchange a defective one, good luck.

I'm in yuba city California today and it shows stock if anybody wants one

I guess California gets better service than the middle of the country...

Is it a store that shows stock or the website? I just went to the website and they still show OOS. Every time the website showed one in stock in a store within a 50 mile radius, I called the store and they said they don't have one and never did from before the sale even started. Was sure wanting a couple at that price.... :frown:

Well, today I got an email from Radio Shack that the EVO V was back in stock.... Just in time to miss the great $99 sale. No stock from a week or two before the sale and none till a week after the sale. Wonder why they bothered to put it on sale?

It is only $180. Hope they don't expect me to buy one now... :)

I got the same email. Wonder if they'll drop it back to $99 to blow out the remaining stock, now that it's considered "end of life?"

Hope so but kinda doubt it. At least for now. The timing of the restock vs. the sale is a little suspicious but companies don't deliberately mislead you, right? ;)

Oh, of course not. My local Radio Shack even had up a disclaimer sign and a manager proclaiming supply issues until at least April. Looks like April's coming early this year ;)

I am waiting to get one of these but somebody needs to put them on sale again. I can drop $120 on one, but not $180

I don't think the Evo V is worth $180 this late in the game. At around $120 it might be worth buying if you spend most of your time in an area covered by WiMax. WiMax will see no further expansion and will be dismantled some time after 2014.

radio shack was terrible with this sale. Even though i got 2 of these phones for 2 different radio shacks it was a pain. There website showed in STOCK, but calling the store turned out they had none.

I found my 1st one in downtown chicago where you have a hell of time parking... im talking paying $20 just to park and get the phone.

The 2nd one i found was in a shady neighborhood where you had to watch yours stuff and car and this place ONLY had 3 in stock.

1st one i got for $130.

2nd one i got for $100

Average price $125 each, plus tax, not counting gas and scary stuff.

Out of stock this morning on the VM site.

I could care less about WiMax or even 4G (or even the 3D camera). The only data this phone will be doing is syncing email. It is going to be a second phone, as I hate using my personal phone for work, and my boss only gives me $40 (he said he would go up to $45) cell phone allowance.
I am willing to eat the cost of the phone to appease my OCD about keeping my work / personal phones separate, but not at $180.

I prefer HTC products and the price plan is right in my ballpark.
I was ready to jump on the One V from VM but the Evo V, even with its age, I believe, is still a better phone.

Be careful as I couldn't get HTML to work on the stock mail application via exchange. After talking to HTC it sounds like virgin disabled it, but can be fixed via root probably. Had to breakdown to Touchdown since I'm stock
