Help Unable to update Android on S3

Hello,

I have an unlocked S3 (unbranded from factory). I've been unable to upgrade Android since I bought the phone - it's been stuck at Android 4.0.4.

When I try to upgrade it in Kies, I get the "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies" notification. When I check for updates through the phone's settings, I always get a message saying there are no available updates.

I've never done any modifications to my phone.

How can I update Android on my phone? I'd appreciate any feedback.

Hi what carrier is the phone on? You can update it manually

I'm on Giffgaff. However, the first three weeks when I was using the phone without a SIM card (just for browsing online via wi-fi), I was also unable to update Android like I described in the first post.

The model number is indeed i9300.

Any idea where I should go from now? Thanks!

Hi, I have the same phone, also unbranded, I updated using the following link, I hesitated at first in case I messed something up, but by printing out and following the instructions to the letter I succeeded. Give it a go, you can always revert to the stock OS if you have any problems, this takes you to Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Phil

No rooting, wiping or anything needed and your warranty will be fine mate

If 4.2.2 does have problems they are not apparent on my phone, everything works as it should. Phil
