My stock Gmail app does not feature an unread counter... not that I can find.

Is there a favorite counter app that will add this to the stock Gmail app?

How does this one check out?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ellevsoft.gmailunreadfree

I'm not quite sure what to make of this note in the description:
"[Important]: Gmail app (NOT Android version) needs to be at version 2.3.6 or higher on Froyo or Gingerbread; 4.0.5 or higher on Honeycomb and ICS. Be sure you first check the Gmail app version and/or update to the latest."

Interesting. I do use Nova Prime and have the Nova Tesla unread counter app. Does that do Gmail too?

Edit: sure enough, this is in the description of Tesla Unread counter:

SMS
Missed calls
Gmail
HTC Email
Samsung Email
Google and Motorola Email
Aqua Mail
K-9 Mail
Google Voice
Google Reader

Looks like I need to read up on the app that I have!

Thanks for the info. Not many use the stock Gmail app?

I suppose many do use it. I love the stock app, especially the latest version. I don't worry about mail count, because I get that through my Dashclock widget on my luck screen, and Nova Prime extension for unread count.

Open the Nova Prime, select unread count, and at the bottom, go to Tesla Setting.
Once you toggle the gmail button ON, touch the word, "gmail". It will take you into menu, where you can select all your folders, inclusive of custom made one.

Thanks Seba. However, I've had NP and Tesla for a while now... GMail has always been selected on... both of my Gmail accounts are enabled.... and never a GMail unread count has shown up.

So something else must be amiss in my setup.

I do get unread email alerts on my stock email app. And with Tesla/NP, I get unread text msg counts (that took me a while to figure out I needed Tesla after going to NP).

Did you actually enter into the gmail setting ? I select all my preferred folders, and it works like charm.

Thanks Seba. I got to the 5th frame on my own, but never saw the folders. I have 2 GMail accounts and they were both selected on. I didn't realize that last frame with the folders would come up when you pressed either Gmail account.

Your pics above really helped... especially that last one. ;)

Edit: what's the Samsung email? The stock email app?

Edit 2: it works great! Thanks so much.

That's quite common android behavior. If you ever come across any of the Toggle Slider menus, touch the menu's Name, often there are more options within it. The toggle is a mere tool to activate it.

Anyway. Yes, that's Samsung stock mail.
I'm glad you got it to work :)

have a great weekend ahead.
