#3 and #4 on that list is enough to let me ride out the 1-yr and let the manufacturer warranty deal with any problems first.
You know that by Fall or so, the INC will probably be less than $100, so it's a waste IMO. Like the article said, most likely by the time you lose/damage it, the phone you get will be less than what you could get it new!

I doubt the DI will be under 100 bucks period. Look at the touch pro 2. I think the $199 online price w/ 2 yr will be the lowest it will go for a while. I'm pretty positive that the DI would have costed even more but since the phone specs are similar to the Nexus one which will be availible soon they had to price it accordingly or risk losing sales to google.

Just wanted to put in my two cents. Came across this article, just food for thought.

Top 10 reasons not to insure your cell phone (Page 1 of 2)
Number 5 is moot--we know the phone is more expensive than the insurance.

Number 4 is also moot--I haven't received an orange for an apple yet (well one time, but it was an upgraded newer model notebook PC because mine was no longer in production).

Number 3 can be brought back. Although some people--like myself--do not like cat and mouse games, that's more of an issue with Number 9 though.

Number 2 - 3.5mm jack and microUSB is fairly standard... I mean maybe a case or a dock, but most docks have a universal port (but may not be docked)

Number 1 - Probably won't... but then I did--I played the betting game with insurance and lost.

This article was published in 2007, a lot of things no longer apply... I mean reason 2 is funny--but used to be true when each phone had their special connector.

Maybe not in 6months, but I think the INC will easily hit below $100 in less than a year. Heck, you can upgrade on Wirefly right now for a new Motorola Droid for $19.99?! Dunno, maybe your right, but no one knows right now anyways. Just all speculations. But I just can't see the INC for still $199 one year from now. Period. That would be the stupidest thing VZW could do.

Well my dumb phone finally pooped out. When on a call, I cant hear other people and other people cant hear me. Txt works fine.

My situation: Two lines on a family plan with one $100 NE2 and both have asurion insurance.
I was reading on the asurion website that it gives pro-rated refunds on unused premiums payed. Has anybody here tried to get a refund for unused insurance from asurion? I was thinking of:
1) getting a new dumb phone with 50 dollar deductible and keep it as a backup for other line and then getting the incred the 29th

2) or try to get the insurance to refund pro-rated unused premium and holding off till the 29th and get the incred

TIA for opinions

Half of the items in this article are assuming the phone you are covering is a cheap piece of junk phone. Thus, most of this crap is obvious (don't spend more on insurance than the phone is worth).

In conclusion, most of what's said in this article is completely irrelevant when deciding whether or not to insure your day of release $530 smartphone.

That's only for the primary line on family share plans right?

Yes, only the primary line.

There's a section at the end that says insurance makes sense for teens, klutzes, and expensive phones. Anyone that pays $6/month to insure a phone that can be bought on ebay for $50 is an idiot or monumentally clumsy.

The article is good, because it tells you what to watch out for.

I also think the extended is an OK deal. I just wish you didn't have to pay for it the first year when the phone is already covered by Verizon/manufacturer.

ANd is exactly why i won't be getting it. Because, in my experience, the most likely scenario for a manufacturer defect is

1. Upon Arrival (covered under included 1 year mfr warranty)
2. Within first year (covered under included 1 year mfr warranty)
3. After years of use (at which time i'm probably going to want a new/different phone anyways)

The possibility of having a mfr defect AFTER the 1st year and BEFORE i get a new phone (usually within 2 years) is not worth the $2/month ($48 over 2 years) to me.

I WILL, however, be getting the WPP for $6/month. So, if i does happen in between that time frame, and it's something i can't deal with, then i'll be covered for the $90 deductible.

I'm thinking that, since this phone is all touch, there's not a whole lot of hardware issues to be had, so the main thing that will happen will be software. In my experience, Verizon is pretty quick to dismiss things as "not covered under the extended warranty" and would need to go through Asurion ANYWAYS...

I've had a BB Curve 8830 for a year now and have gotten replacements under the mfr warranty about 3 times this year and have had several trackballs/rings replaced in the meantime. Which may sound contradicting to my statements above, but i'm getting a new phone today... so having the Extended Warranty on this phone i would've wasted that $24....so.

It's not a lot of money, but it's a bit of a waste IMO. i'm saving myself the $2/mo...

To each their own.

The LOVEMOM coupon still works if that's the one you're talking about. I'm still not sure about it. I could pay the extra $2/month and be able to walk into a VZW and get a new phone. Whereas on SquareTrade, I have to mail it to them and I should have a replacement/money/fixed phone back within 5 days. I can't live without my phone for 5 days :\

Just to add to the State Farm confirmations. I'm in California and only have a car and motorcycle with them. They will insure the Incredible for $30 per year, no deductible, covers everything. They just have to inspect the phone at an office and that's it. I'll be doing that, love State Farm.

I've heard other people talk about similar plans. I wonder if I can just use State Farm for my phone lol. I'm happy with my current provider, but they don't have anything even close to this.
