I also think the extended is an OK deal. I just wish you didn't have to pay for it the first year when the phone is already covered by Verizon/manufacturer.
ANd is exactly why i won't be getting it. Because, in my experience, the most likely scenario for a manufacturer defect is
1. Upon Arrival (covered under
included 1 year mfr warranty)
2. Within first year (covered under
included 1 year mfr warranty)
3. After years of use (at which time i'm probably going to want a new/different phone anyways)
The possibility of having a mfr defect AFTER the 1st year and BEFORE i get a new phone (usually within 2 years) is not worth the $2/month ($48 over 2 years) to me.
I WILL, however, be getting the WPP for $6/month. So, if i does happen in between that time frame, and it's something i can't deal with, then i'll be covered for the $90 deductible.
I'm thinking that, since this phone is all touch, there's not a whole lot of hardware issues to be had, so the main thing that will happen will be software. In my experience, Verizon is pretty quick to dismiss things as "not covered under the extended warranty" and would need to go through Asurion ANYWAYS...
I've had a BB Curve 8830 for a year now and have gotten replacements under the mfr warranty about 3 times this year and have had several trackballs/rings replaced in the meantime. Which may sound contradicting to my statements above, but i'm getting a new phone today... so having the Extended Warranty on this phone i would've wasted that $24....so.
It's not a lot of money, but it's a bit of a waste IMO. i'm saving myself the $2/mo...
To each their own.
