I'm going on my first week with this phone. I love it. This phone is seriously good. I guess even more with me because this is my first android. I'm coming from iPhone.

My gripes so far:

1) the auto brightness is super sensitive. Some may find this annoying. Even outside it will change to the lowest brightness setting if your hand gave it a bit of shade when taking a picture. Then you can't see the screen.

This is of course all fixable. You can download an app to control this. Some people don't even have auto brightness. They just set it and forget it.

2) the default lg keyboard. The keys are in some weird layout where the space bar is super tiny and I keep hitting comas after every word. So far, and maybe this is personal choice, I LOVE Swype. This keyboard rocks. Better than the Apple keyboard for sure.

So. What are your gripes?

2. When you send a text for some reason the window reverts the message to the beginning of the conversation history. Then you have to scroll to the bottom again.

3. Group texts are a nightmare. Even when I make sure I select the group text option instead of send individual message I receive half of the messages from the people in the group as individual texts which do not also get added to the group message. Therefore following a group text is borderline impossible and very frustrating.

4. The keyboard is terrible. I thought it was difficult to type on my I phone. This one is worse.

5. After opening apps I will hold in the home key to see everything I have running and at times nothing appears even though I know I have multiple programs running. Therefore I have to hold the home key in again to see what is running.

6. While typing it is very easy to hit the home key instead of the space key.

There are many things I love about this phone like the camera, the beautiful screen, and the speed of the processor but the software issues are quite annoying. Can any of these issues be fixed in a new release or am I going to have to just deal with these? I understand the keyboard issues will not be addressed but maybe some of the others? I am relatively new to the smart phone world so I don't know what new releases can resolve.

Man. I swear they're installing God knows what over there in these phones.

The knock on thing works for me almost all of the time. I would say 95-98%? I've only not had it work a couple of times. I don't know if it's the way I do it or just the way phones in the USA are loaded with stuff. But it works for me.

The keyboard. You have to download Swype. Do it now. You'll thank me. I'll show you mine.

For the thing about texts. I never text. I just use LINE.

The texts I did send I never experienced what you're describing about it scrolling back up. That's weird.

Is there a way to wipe these phones clean and have them as LG loaded them? We pay cash for them here but they come unaltered.

I'm coming from the iPhone too and the LG keyboard was terrible for me. I kept hitting the period or comma instead of the space. Then I put Swype. I'm typing faster than on the iPhone now. IF you want to type. You can just Swype.

Don't Knock on too meh! It has to be a nice solid double tap or a gentle double tap. I think it also has to do with the way you're holding it. I think it may have the accelerometer involved in that.

Phone is super slippery, even more so than my S3, but a slim case fixes that.
I use so few stock apps so it doesn't bother me. Swiftkey for keyboard and Handcent for texting.
Haven't used the camera much but looking forward to it this weekend. The UI is fine for me, nice change from stock which is all I've used for the past few years. All and all, I'm very satisfied with it, think it's a great phone! Even if the Nexus 5 comes to Verizon, it has a fraction of the size of the G2's battery, so I wouldn't consider it.

1. Knock-Knock.
Yes, sometimes it doesn't work. Although I'd estimate 80-90% success for me. A future software update may improve this, but I don't think it will ever be 100%. Just the way the processor sleeps.

Moto X has some similar hit or miss attempts with voice control while sleeping. It's not perfected tech yet.

2 and 3. Text messaging.
You aren't limited to the stock app. Get another text app. I've heard good things about Textra and Handcent.

4 and 6. Keyboard.
Same as above and other posters mentioned. Not limited to stock one.

5. Holding the home key brings up the recent apps. Are you saying sometimes you have to do it twice. Never seen that, but hopefully a software update can help that unless it's a real strange issue.

So most of your gripes could be fixed with two app downloads, although I'd like to see LG update the stock ones.

I've had times where holding the Home to bring up the list of apps comes up clear with nothing showing, even though I know I had stuff open recently. I rarely use it as task switcher though, so it's never really bothered me.

My gripes...um..eh, the rear buttons could be a tad bigger or easier to distinguish on the VZW version, but I'm sure I'll get more used to the placement with time. The logos..eh. Not TOO obtrusive, BUT, I will say having the Verizon Wireless banner in so many places is a tad much. I'm used to it on the pull down shade from other phones, but does it REALLY need to be on the lock screen? Really?

Most of my other gripes though, are mainly things like 3rd party launchers not being able to have transparent softkeys/status bars, and things like that. Things that I'm sure future ROMs will offer (and probably will clear my Verizon banners too). But they don't really affect operation, and I know many people (my gf) won't root their phones anyway, but there are just so many other positives on this phone, they far outweigh the negatives in my mind.

And yes, I always use Swype, have since my Fascinate came with it, I've always downloaded it to everything since, and I use GoSMS Pro for texting. Just preferences.

Well, I use Go SMS Pro for texting and SwiftKey for my keyboard so no gripes there. I've had excellent response to the knock on, which, I've found to be one of my favorite features. The only gripe I have so far is that I NEED a case since the back is just a fingerprint magnet and I'm a fingerprint freak. That is definitely one plus the HTC One has over this phone.

I wonder why they changed the buttons for Verizon. That's weird. The original size of them is perfect. Sometimes if I have to use the iPhone I try to touch the back. It has been only a few days but my fingers are used to it ready.

I've never had that issue with the task switcher.

I seriously wonder if the phones in general are a bit buggy because of the carrier crap.

Am I the only one with Swype? I think it is perfect.

No, not the only one with Swype. But over the android years, lots of people have gotten used to lots of different keyboards and have their own preferences. The Google keyboard, Swype, Swiftkey, etc. And once you get used to one, you really don't like to switch. So I'm sure there are plenty of people out there rocking different keyboards as a personal preference, and they all do very well, from what I've seen.

Not sure why Verizon did the buttons that way, I remember vaguely hearing something about added this or that and whatever, but no idea. Just sucks for cases lol.

As far as being buggy, I really can't say. Other than having the Task list come up empty (and it's been like, maybe twice since I got the phone?), it's been solid. I did remove the bloatware though, so who knows.

No idea why the buttons changed either, but the Verizon version also comes with wireless charging. So did the buttons change a bit due to inclusion of this feature, or did Verizon want to make extra changes to ensure more compatible accessories are purchased from them?

Someone just ruined an important picture today at an event. They took the picture of this person when they had their eyes closed. So I showed my wife Time Catch shot.

Seems like I'm bragging about this phone every day. Poor iPhone people.

My only complaints were with the camera, it was awful. My replacement seems to be working better.


I have had issues with knock knock, where I can knock 8000 times with no response.

The fact that you can't keep custom thread backgrounds on certain threads after they're deleted.

I hit the comma button. A LOT

You mean with the LG keyboard? If it is then yes. You can't hit the spacebar with that keyboard. Install Swype like me. You'll hit it every time. Requires almost no getting used to. Your fingers just fall into place naturally.

What issues did you have with the camera? So far so good for me, except my camera gripe is that I can't make is default to Intelligent Auto.

Knock knock. I am not sure why so many are having issues with this feature. In the settings it does specify "hit the middle of the screen"

I think it has to do with the accelerometer and where you hit it. It works for me almost all the time.

Wow. I was just looking at phonedog G2 Verizon vs AT&T and the skinning from the different carriers in the USA is ridiculous.

I can really see a difference since I have it straight from Korea here in Thailand. This may be causing some of the issues you guys are having with the software?

Why can't they treat it like an iPhone and stop putting crap on the phones?

If you buy it from the carrier unlocked and pay full price, do you still have one that's skinned? Or do they give you an unaltered version of the phone?

Just got a G2 on big red yesterday. Didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. It's an amazing device.

Gripes:
1. The status bar is hideous. RIP if you have GPS, NFC, vibrate and an alarm set at the same time :what:

2. The button placement on the vzw version is just awful. There's no distinguishing fell. I usually can't unlock it on my first attempt.

3. VZW lockscreen branding. We all know who we're overpaying every month. Don't need to see it every time we wake our phone.

Praise:

1. Knock Knock. My chin hit my shoes when I realized it also turned the phone OFF! Game changer. Screw those back buttons!

2. QSlide apps are surprisingly usefull. I find myself using the dialer almost daily.

3. And last, but not least the camera is great. Coming from an S3 I notice a big improvement with day to day pics. The camera is what really sold me on this phone and I'm glad it didn't disappoint.

Edit: Forgot about the screen!! It is gorgeous!!

There's a lot to like about this phone. I think if you had mine you would like it a little better. I have no clue why Verizon changed it so much.

The screen is great. Very natural and crispy.

What do you do with auto brightness? I have it at 40% and set to auto. Seems to work fine most of the time. Maybe 50% would be better.

1) The lg keyboard when trying to use the swipe function it doesn't always get the words right. So I have switched to the google keyboard, since it includes swipe.

2) the knock on feature does not always work.

One I forgot to add in my previous post, when I have my bluetooth on my Text notification only goes off in my ear and not on the phone, like my email or any other notifications do. The others go off on phone and in ear. But if my bluetooth is not in my ear I don't know I got a text.

How well the OIS is working on g2.. Because when I'm trying to take pictures and if I shake a little the pictures are getting blurred ... but in case of htc one the pictures are nice with readable text and great camera quality...but that's not tge case in g2
Is that device problem or g2 camera is a bad one

Some people have had some hiccups, some defective. I can say that most of the pictures I've taken have always come out clear, unless I'm really moving too much.

Hello, I am using Light Manager for my LED notification flash rate. It works well but I would prefer to use the native LED controls. The problem is that the native ones flash way too slow so that you have to look at your phone for several seconds before you may see the LED flash for you. Is there a way to increase the flash rate for the native LED notification? I have searched here and several other forums without any success, or even anyone else commenting on this. Any help appreciated...Thanks!
