Help Static sound when recording video.

My new one has no hissing...

Just the usual white noise like my
iPhone 5s...So I'd say pretty safe to say its a hardware issue.

Just a follow up...
This is in fact my 3rd nexus from Google.

First one: white 32GB, terrible hissing when recording audio even on 4.4.2

Second: white 32GB, same hissing even on 4.4.2 and a defective vibrate motor.

Third: black 32GB, decided to just return both white versions and go with the Black version. No hissing during audio, and no issues with the vibrate. Prompt for 4.4.2 came down while downloading all my apps, seems fine so far.

Just got my replacement, no glue but the static and hissing is just as bad when i record a video, but is fine when placing calls both normal and speaker phone.

This makes me think its a software issue... Other wise phone calls would sound just as bad wouldn't they??

Thought video/ snapchat/ instagram all record with that loud static

No, I think it may be a hardware issue. On my previous device, an HTC One X, I had issues with the mic. During calls, the only way I could get people to hear me during calls was to put it on speakerphone. The mic did NOT work in Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, etc. It would record but there was no sound. But, it DID in fact work when recording regular videos using the native camera app. I thought this was odd and did some research. Turns out the noise cancellation mic only comes on during speakerphone & recording videos (apparently only with HTC's camera) and that is what was recording the audio during calls. The main mic was indeed broken and did not work. So only apps that used the second noise cancellation mic would record sound.

My guess is the Nexus 5 is having issues with it's two mics simultaneously recording, or maybe even just one is defective. That would definitely cause issues with static in recordings. It would also explain why some apps may have loads of static but others are crystal clear, because they use different mics.

my calls are crystal clear though, speaker phone and normal calls.

video recording/instagram/snap chat all sound identical with the static.

oh well if it is a hardware issue, once google identifies it and corrects the issue, they will have a lot of returns/replacements to send out.

EDIT: there is only static when it is in a quiet environment. I just did a video recording with music playing from my Nexus 7 and it came through crystal clear as if I was playing the song on my nexus 5.

The Nexus 5 may handle the mics differently from the one x and use only one mic for calls and speaker. Its only a theory. But you're completely right about the replacements. And just as much as Google doesn't want to replace thousands of devices for free, I don't want to have to send mine in an be phone less for weeks.

SMH Google. Just when we thought you got everything right this time.

you wouldn't have to be phoneless, they send you a replacement and then you send your phone back in the same shipping box, they cover all costs of shipping also.

However they do put a hold on the Funds with you CC until they receive the original one back though...I just did it and ended up sending both defective ones back and ended up placing a whole new order for s black one....which is Good so far

I don't know how you can possibly think this is a hardware issue. Take the same video with your default camera app and listen to the sound quality. It's probably crystal clear. It is for me at least. But whenever I record something on Snapchat in a loud atmosphere, especially with loud lower frequencies, the quality is awful. It's most definitely a software issue. Idk what Snapchats problem with Android is but they really should fix it.
