Help VERY Glitchy! :(

I need help figuring out whether the problems I'm having are firmware issues, a battery issue or I simply need to have Virgin Mobile replace my phone.

I just started using this phone Monday of this week (Dec/23/13) and since then I have had the camera app fail on me multiple times upon switching from rear to front view (vice versa) and fail to the point of not opening the camera until I perform a reset. I have had the phone turn off on me one minute into using it for GPS (VERY dangerous when I'm on the highway). Finally, this phone will randomly turn off and go into a boot-loop, until I take out the battery for a few minutes and start-up again. It's especially annoying when the battery is fully charged and the phone does it in a way that makes the battery feel as if it's out of juice. This is a brand new device/battery and already the battery has had at least 2 6-8 hour sessions of charging so one would think that the battery should be fine.

I just don't get it. When it's working, it's a beauty and way faster than my old Kyocera Rise but these issues need to be ironed out or this will end up being yet another phone I will regret purchasing.

1) It sounds as if you need to have the phone replaced.

2) On receiving a cellphone, charge the battery until the phone tells you to remove the charger. How long that will take depends on how long the battery has been sitting on the shelf (they self-discharge) since it was made. It could be a couple of hours (leaving the charger connected longer doesn't hurt anything - the battery stops charging when it's fully charged) or it could be more than 16 hours. I always recommend a 24 hour charge (whth the phone off) if you're having battery problems.

If you're charging with the phone turned on, 6-8 hours is barely a charge, if it's a charge at all. The charger can charge the battery, it can't supply enough current to run the phone. So if the phone is drawing more current from the battery than the charger is putting into it, the battery is being drained, not charged. (USB 2.0 is a 100 mA charge at most. Some phones draw less than that when they sleep, so they can be charged when still on.)

But I'd still try to get the phone replaced - it does seem to have problems a new phone shouldn't have.

Not relevant to your problems but, how did you operate a car before GPS came along?
When I was in an area I wasn't familiar with, I'd stop at a gas station and grab a local map. Today you're lucky if the kids working there have even a vague idea of where your destination is.

Sorry just reminds me of the people who claim they drive into lakes and walls because the little voice box said so. :p
We get used to following orders, don't we? Remiinds me of the time I took what I thought would be a shorter route off I-95. Ended up going around the parking lot (at night, large parking lot, not many lights) before I realized that the GPS was taking me in a circle. Drove a few miles down the road until it stopped telling me to make a U-turn and it recalibrated to a sane route. A paper map and a navigator in the shotgun seat (sometimes called SWMBO) would have worked a lot better.

Looks like I might have to send in my wife's phone as well. I got my replacement last Tuesday and things have been working well. I get an occasional restart but it's rare. The one phone that was extremely solid before activation (my wife's Awe) is now acting as if A) it doesn't want to charge the battery and B) wants to drain the battery. This is quite annoying. It seems like these phones get very buggy once you activate them.

Were all the phones mentioned in this thread that had the random restart rooted? I bought the phone at Target and I was planing on flashing it to its original state and exchange it. Can I do that and then go home and swap the phone online in the Virgin Mobile website or do I need to have both phones in hand to be able to do that? Do you guys think I will loose my grandfathered plan?

I would like to know this as well. Although, how would you get the VM PRL back on the phone?

Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by that? If I flash the phone back to it's original state it will erase everything isn't it? So when I get the new one I just input the IMEI number in the Virgin Mobile website and I should be good to go or am I wrong?
