Android OS Causing battery drain

I read a bunch of thread on how everyone can get 2 days of heavy use out of the battery, but I can barely get 16 of hardly any use and it seems Android OS is the problem. I had a Note 2 and the main battery usage was always screen. With this note 3 Android OS is using 43% and screen uses 6%. Any one else having similar problems? Anyone know how to fix it?

It depends on the usage. On an AT&T Note 3 stock, I get 24% Google Services, 18% screen, 16% cell standby, 16% Android OS, 12% Device idle ...

That's today. Some days the phone uses most of the power, some days the screen does ...

I've almost never run out of battery, but I carry a fully charged spare in my pocket. (They're cheap.) And I'm not on my phone every waking moment, but it is on 24/7/365.

I get 6-8 hours with 95% Android OS usage - f** knows what that is about :(

So I charged the phone to 100% last night and left it unplugged while I slept. I woke up this morning and charge was at 61%. I installed GSam battery monitor to see what was using the battery. Stock battery report said Android OS at 75% and GSam says Kernel (Android OS) and that Keep Awake was on for 7 hours 57 mins. I have no idea what to do now, but 40% battery drain while not using the device seems ridiculous.

I guess it's time for hard reset?

change your email to manual check. doing so on my note 3 will get me 1.5-2 days of normal use no problem.

I just recently changed my work email to push and set the time frame of working hours only to test out the impact. Doing so causes me to lose 35-40% over the course of just 6hrs. It makes a big difference.

I like manual check anyway as I don't need my phone or emails/senders telling me what to do when. I'm a proactive guy not reactive, thus I set the stage with my teams that I check email twice before lunch, twice after and many times to look for replies either very early morning or at COB.

I've been having the same problem. Sometimes the phone would go smoothly from the morning til midday, then on the afternoon my phone would decide to let Android OS take over the world. When it does, my battery drains really fast.

The unsure solutions that I've found so far are by letting your phone charge overnight (around 4+ hours), or when it acts up during midday, I clear my RAM and end all applications. When I clear the RAM, Android OS would stop draining sometimes but sometimes it wouldn't do anything.

It sounds trivial but have you restarted your phone recently?
I know you shouldn't have to do this but for some people its helped.

I have found a couple of culprits.

One is Maps, a big one. If Maps is running in the background it kills battery. If using it for navigation or searching for something, if you then close maps it will remain open in the background eating battery. It's necessary to open it, clear any navigation as well as search terms, and hit back button until it closes. When I do this battery life is considerably better. If I forget, it's awful. Maps is such a lousy app, it was so good before, there seems to be no interest in fixing it.

The other thing I've noticed is web browser windows that refresh such as Facebook or ESPN. If they are open that will eat a lot of battery as well. I always try to navigate away to a non-refreshing page or close the window, if I forget I pay.

Turning off location services helps too, but it renders Maps entirely unusable as long as they are off. I hate Maps but I have to use it.

OK, so I've taken advantage of several options on my Note 3.
ZeroLemon 10000 mAH Battery
Gravity Screen - Puts device to sleep very effectively every time I put it down. I mean really asleep. For the past 2 nights, I'd put it on my nightstand at 10, wake it up at 7 or so and it would only have used 2% battery overnight.
My current usage is as shown below

That's remarkable!! Were you experiencing any battery drain issues before you had the app?

I've had the ZeroLemon 10K mAH extended battery for almost a month and it has generally been really good at keeping me in the work/play functional arena for 2+ days before the battery capacity would decay to the 20% or less point for a re-charge.
I just installed the 'Gravity Screen' app this Thursday the 13th in the evening so I'm still evaluating it improvements.
I also had one of the 'Power Battery' booster apps installed and it by itself was averaging 4% battery consumption.
so my mileage was as shown in that image after I took it off the charger Thursday Morning and at 11:00 PM last night, Saturday the 15th, I just couldn't resist. It was still at 50% and just had to put it back on the charger again.
Took it off this morning at 7:00 AM and after using it extensively at church and doing some e-mail and SMS, it is now at 94% after 7 hrs 15 mins.
