I'd imagine it was just either general settings in current Android build if it was using WiMax, or in those specific apps which you probably guessed yourself. We've been hearing of WiMax for a while so the developers putting the option early wouldn't be too surprising. Verizon just started LTE preliminaries in Boston today, starting to role out end of the year. I don't think anyone here is going to give you any insightful answers. I am still wondering about the whole wireless N capabilities on the incredible. I believe it has it but not enabled like the other HTC fones (minus the Eris).
