Edge or No Edge?

Samsung hasn't decided yet: so what's our preference here? An edge display would give extra functionality and style, but also takes up real estate from the S-Pen. How would YOU like the Note 6 to look?

From the sounds of it, It'll be one or the other. My Money will be on the Regular and not the edge. Can't imagine how the SPen will work with the edging to ne honest... seems like a bit more of a hassle then anything else.

No edge please. I don't see the advantage of the edge screens. I see them being vulnerable to breaking more easily as a case cannot protect that area of the screen, and neither can a tempered screen protector. Give me the flat screen (and no slight curve to the edge like the N4 has) with very little bezel. I will slap a tempered screen protector on it and a slim TPU case and be good to go.

I really don't care either way, but if they do go with an Edge display, I'd prefer seeing a flat 5.8 w/ the curved portions making it a 6 inch screen total. And additionally, only reason I'd want the curved display, is to make for a better screen to body ratio, making the phone easier to hold.

I've been itching to get back to the Note family (w/ a phone), since I decided to switch to T-Mobile. Although I love the Mate 8, having the S-pen on my day-to-day activities is something that I truly am missing. There are a few things that'll be crucial, for my getting back into the Note family (for phones).

1) Return of the microSD (this one seems to be inevitable, seeing as the Galaxy S line already had it return)
2) As good, if not better, screen to body ratio as the Note 5
3) Larger battery (rumors of the 4000mah battery has me really hype)
4) Offering at least the 64gb (internal) version or other larger storage version (128, 256). This one isn't really a "requirement" for me, but after having the Mate 8 128gb version (w/ micro SD) for the past 2.75 months, it's going to be hard for me to go back to only having 32gb internal. 64gb might be my new minimum, for internal storage options.

I love reading all the rumors, but I do hope the rumored July release ends up being 100% true.

I personal love the large format edge screen devices but With regard to the s pen i feel i can not justify having it on the device as i dont us it as much as it should be used. the edge system needs to be opened up more on the usability but there are several rumour floating around my uk office with regards to the note 6 having a edge screen option and bring bak the good old s pen for all to enjoy there is also a rumour that this wil have a memory card expansion and also had 2 new features rumoured to set the note 6 with a more professional side to the edge plus series.

I'd rather have the curved screen a la G Flex/2,than the curved edges,which I found to be gimmicky & a solution looking for a problem to solve on the S7 Edge.

i would like the introduction of maybe a dual screen device. i think that could be pretty cool having a small lcd read out on the reverse of a device or on a second thought a full framed device where you have no hard keys or development such as the lg g5 where button are placed on the reverse but the full front of the device is a full edgeless display

Yes, that's why I'm hoping that if they went with the edge design, it'd actually be 6 inches w/ the flat portion being 5.8.

Since I've been using the Priv as my work phone and also have a Note Edge, I think I'm leaning towards a preference of the basic flat design. The only reason I like the curved edges is for comfort of holding the device, which really does make a difference on the Priv.

On the Priv, I don't really hold it a particular way, but don't have an issue of unnecessary touches. On the Edge, it's a little different. I do find myself holding that in a manner to avoid touching the edge portion, just because of Samsung's software.

In particular, the most irritating part I find with the edge screen is touching parts of a homescreen or browser that are close to the edge (this goes for the Priv and the Note Edge). Probably takes me more time for it to recognize what I'm touching exactly, when the item is right on the border of the screen. Or if I go into landscape mode, probably takes a couple swipes before it pulls down the notification bar, when I'm trying to swipe away a notification or open a new notification.

Ergonomically, I think it's a very good thing, but for productivity sake, I've found it to be more of a hassle. And since the Mate 8 is my main daily driver, it's hard to really want to use the other devices as much.

Thanks for your input... I had figured that the Edge display would somehow interfere with productivity to one degree or another. If it slows me down, I don't want it - no matter how "cool" it looks. I want the Note 6 for its powerhouse capabilities... not to impress other people with eye candy.

I really hope the dimensions are on point and microSD is back. Anything else rumored will just be a bonus.

Got the chance to handle the S7 quite a bit Saturday night. I have to say, that is one nice phone. Makes my N4 seem old honestly. And I actually like the dual edge display. I don't know that I will "use" the edge features, but it makes the display to phone size ratio better, and that is always a good thing. The edge display will still be harder to protect than a flat display - you can't put a tempered glass protector on the curved edges, and even the N4 with it's slighty curved edges makes a tempered protector not ideal, but I can live with that downside (ha - until I crack my display from the uprotected curved edges). In any case, the 5.5" S7 is a very nice phone and I almost wish I had that phone instead of my N4, but I am waiting for the N7 because I prefer the Note series.

+1, The Note 5 is one nice phone to hold,they nailed it w/the ergonomics.
However,the all-glass construction negates the ergonomics & most will not go caseless w/the Note5,or any Galaxy class phone going forward.
The same design/ergonomics w/a ruggedized construction would be ideal.
It's not just the Galaxy phones,it's a majority of flagship phones in general that are going the all-glass or metal construction.
Neither are ideal or practical,Moto is on the right track w/the phones that have shatterproof displays & a body that is more resilient to normal everyday use without a case.
Too bad Motorola's phones are a real yawnfest as features go,compared to the Note Series...........
