Android 6.0.1 on a Galaxy S5. I don't want my phone to check my email regularly. I only want it to check when I say so. I have set all the settings to manual. Still, I get notifications that I have new emails. Why is it still checking when everything is set to manual?? How can I stop this?

thank you

as above, if using Gmail or any other email account.
go to Settings and turn off sync and push notifications.

then on the phone, use a good app that also provides those abilities, and Aqua Mail has a very strong fan base on this forum.

I use it, it is completely configurable as to how you want it to work.

I have mine set up to be as dead as a squashed bug, right up until I request it to update one of the 3 accounts. and it only updates the account that I am looking at, not all of them. You can't get any better than that.

Plus, it is compatible with just about everything out there in the Internet world.

Soooo... I don't understand why do I have to turn off sync completely? Then in order to get my mail , I have to go into the system settings for each account and turn on sync? there is a setting for the schedule right there, and you can set it to manual. That "should" make it so it only syncs when I manually hit the sync button, right? Here is how I have it set up. there is nothing telling it to automatically sync. everything is set to manual

if you use Aqua mail, you can leave every turned off, as I do.

then in the account that you want to update, just slide your finger from top towards the bottom, it will immediately download any new messages.

there is no requirement to turn sync back on at all..... I for one, think that sync is a bad thing.
unnecessary waste of battery power, and if you don't have the phone in your hands, why have it sync up?
It only takes 2 or 3 seconds for it to grab the titles of the messages.... and that is all I allow it to download, the title...

when I click on a title, it downloads the rest of that message to the extent that I allow it to....
Pictures? full or none, you only need to touch the image icon and it will download that 'right now'
