One thing I'm now aware about what LG does is they supply free software , kdz files, kernel and android sources and of course UNLOCKED bootloaders on even their non- flagship phones.
I see why devs who work on LG devices do so because of no fear of failure.
I can put my phone back to stock in less than 13 minutes in an event theres a brick.
Thats why im compiling my first custom kernel from source . If I succeed I will move on to roms.
Any lg owners who are out there feel free to chime in. No disrespect to zte ..just not my liking of a company anymore.
This phone needs a forum.
Were rooted already for months.

The Last Poster Is Correct... This Really Is Not The Spot.. But,
I no longer care for their services as well.. even though I have "Perfect" running Max Pro ( got blessed there) that gets incredible battery, no overheats, reboots etc.. ( I did not update to the B12 update and I think that's been the key for my phone ) it has been EXTREMLY disappointing for everyone with the realization that admin access is a no go.. This is somewhat ironic for me.. because I returned my Stylo 2 plus to Wal-Mart like a week before Messi got it rooted! and signed up with MetroPCS to get the Max for $39.99 with the number port promo.. I saved $90.00 bucks ( got a price match on the Stylo it was only $129.00 for me ) But.. to your point.. correct me if I'm wrong, I thought with the latest update LG has now removed fastboot as well..? correct me if I'm wrong.. but does that not shutdown any future advancement in kernel / rom development? I'm leaning towards grabbing another stylo 2 plus until the Oneplus 5 gets the specs announced in a couple of months.. but, if stylo 2 plus is now getting hemmed in as well, I'm heading to the moto G4 as an interim phone please let us know what you know since you own it.

I'm pretty sure that update was for the Stylo 2 not the plus, Metro/T-Mobile lg device's have always had access to the bootloader (tho LG does seem to take out some useful commands) in my experience, even after numerous updates.

Thanks for the reply..
I thought I remembered Messi in the root discussion thread saying the latest updates removed fastboot.. just like ZTE has done with the Zmax Pro.

No.. fastboot was not removed ..
I successfully fastboot flashed the insecure boot.img. and messi's twrp after the update . I only noticed the security 8/2016 patch.

Now LG is funny when it comes to twrp. Its about 88% working due to you cant hard reset into recovery..only by pc or adb terminal. Also you must wait about 2 minutes once you enter twrp letting the phone sleep first due to password encryption.
But if you know what your doing youll be fine using it to restore and flash your zips.

Wow.. I Did Not Know This Was A W.I.P.
I thought things had progressed.. Thank You JH for your candor..
And that's too bad.. I see Metro has the device for $129 ( most likely on the 90 day commitment to stay deal ).. I'll have to look at the Moto G4 or Moto Play to play with Root & Rom's for under $200..
Again Thanks so much for being up front with the progress on the Stylo 2P.. I wish you luck in your kernel endeavors.. maybe you could even work on a "De-bloated" Deodexed stock rom to go with that kernel for your device.. that would be cool too.. ;)

Yeah. That's why I like LG phones. I really dislike their overuse of dialogue boxes and disgusting looking UI, but at very least there's a way to change it :)

If ZTE made it possible to right all of the wrongs with their lame Zmax Pro UI (at least without root), it wouldn't be half bad. Just the inability to change unlock gesture alone pisses me off. Slide up, not that press and hold crap. Yeah that really bothers me. As soon as I hit the power button.

It's a damn shame having a very potentially awesome phone sitting in my junk drawer of doom next to the BlackBerry phones. Looks like it's going to stay there? Oh well. New BB is on its way, hopefully that doesn't disappoint too much.

Well each time I hit make j8 ARCH=arm, build error 2 blah blah. I cant wait I'm able to break this thing open and try my kernel. Again if anyone knows a perfect kernel building guide that will explain in detail so I can get this finished already.
I added two new govs and overclocked the gpu to 550 mhz. CPU big cores to 1.6 ghz and little cores to 1.4 ghz.

Sidenote , I'm late to this but for any gamers out there who likes to use your ps4 wireless controller for gaming. This phone has no lag at all when I use the Sixaxis apk. One of the best apps I've seen. You can map everygame . Just screenshot the game with the onscreen button layout showing and simply map your buttons to your liking. Im playing nba 2k17 on my LG with a ps4 wireless controller with I repeat no lag.
My issue is when mirroring via usb with vysor.exe. the quality stream is not as good as the native cast that the zmax pro has. Ill give zte that one. But I cant use my ps4 controller the way I want via the Sixaxis apk app. on the zmax pro.
If I could combine tbese two phones into one would be perfect for me.

DPI issue.
Solution :
If you have xposed installed use module "App Settings"and change all apps to your DPI liking EXCEPT the LG apps.

Smaller screen on the LG and no hardware menu buttons so even more screen space is wasted with on-screen buttons. Plus, lower resolution screen on the LG. About the only meaningful advantage that the LG has is NFC and Stylus. Sorry... it's just NOT as good of a phone as the ZTE. Even if you add Nougat to the LG.

Some people are obsessed with talking about other phones. Don't know why the mods don't delete these posts (spam) and even ban the people who only show up here to brag about their phone.
Because 99% of posts on every thread are trash and deserve a ban - meaning there would hardly be anyone left to post and make new threads. lol

I googled and found a way to have apps write to your ext_sdcard.
Again with Xposed installed .
Download these 2 apks:
Obb on SD
Marshmallow SDcard fix
Now all my /data and /Obb files are on my external SD card saving more ram and internal storage without doing adoptable storage in which I'm against.
Also move both apps to /system folder.
My available ram is ranging 800 to 1000 now
Phone feels snappier.

Update on my kernel build.
Got it to build but not booting past LG logo.
I'll post back when I look into the abootimg.

How similar is LG Android 6.0.1 system write protect to ZTE Zmax Pro running 6.0.1?
Far as my knowledge LG doesnt use write protection. Correct me if Im wrong. Once your rooted with systemless root you have complete root access without the need of additional adb commands like disexxxmp that zte uses.. I have no restrictions on my root. I flashed Supersu2.78.zip.

Now the gpu oc'd to 550mhz.
I've noticed a boost in performqnce there so far..
I'll really keep an eye out on the cpu temps.
Even the stock kernel would run warm on heavy usage.
Screenshot_2017-01-25-12-07-29.png

Sidenote.
If I read the files correctly, The gpu can max up to 880mhz and the cpu 2.2ghz on the big cores and 1.8ghz on the little cores.

Do you or anyone know of other or newer commands for other than ZTE to disable protections?
