How to move apps to the SD card on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8

We know many of you will be wondering how you can move apps to SD card on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. It’s possible to do that on both flagships but again, the procedure is slightly different for these Nougat-powered handsets.

Did this a few days ago. With a 400gb SSD card. Such a shame this device only has 64gb in the US (coming from an unlocked ASUS zenfone 3 with 256gb internal storage ) but am happy the option exists to move SOME data over to SD...

Yeah, I don't understand, last year they gave away tons of 256gig SD cards for free, and this year, said 128gig, but many people are receiving 256's this year as well. So if they can afford to give away all that storage for free, why not just put it all on-board to begin with?

You don't actually have to do the first step in the instructions. You can simply to go to settings>apps. Pull up the app you want to move and check in the storage options for the permission. If you can move it you will see the option.

Yeah, I don't understand, last year they gave away tons of 256gig SD cards for free, and this year, said 128gig, but many people are receiving 256's this year as well. So if they can afford to give away all that storage for free, why not just put it all on-board to begin with?

Then they wouldn't be able to charge you stiff premiums for the larger available capacity Note8s, like 256GB internal, and Samsung would be losing out on profit.

You can force apps to sd through 'developer options' that normally wouldn't give that option, I believe, except for Samsung apps.

settings>about phone>build number(tap 7 times)<settings. {bottom of list}>developer options>force allow apps on external(toggle)

I haven't used it yet, but it's nice to know it's there down the line.

Fundamentally, I get the idea of options but in this case, what exactly are you moving? Once I get my pictures, movies and music to the SD card, I've got plenty of space for apps.

Are there specific things that take large amounts of the internal storage? Anyone have a list?

Not being critical, just curious.

Nothing on this 64GB Note 8 yet, but on the 32GB S7 edge, I had to move a lot to SD as the Oculus and VR files were huge and could only be stored on internal storage and it ate up most of of it. Oculus has changed since then and will allow some apps to be moved but yes, I have not had to use the function on the Note 8, just pointing out that it exists.

I can understand larger capacity internal for dual sim purposes as the user won't have the microSD option if using 2 SIMs in the phone. And would be a hassle to swap between SIM and microSD. So larger capacity gives them that extra flexibility. And I filled my 64 GB full of data and media on my Note 2. Always had to look to free up space. Right now I got a 256GB microSD and 64GB internal which is good enough for me now.

I have some Audubon apps (No longer available from Google Play - but still work) that all have between 250M and 480M of data for each app (I think I have 6 total)
I have an App called GoBible that is Audio Bible - it takes 1.52G

That said - Right now I have 2 SIMs in; so all my apps and data are in storage and I still have 19.7G Free
I have apx 150 Apps looks like
