Notifications bar keeps dropping down

I have a samsung galaxy fold and am new to android. I am having a real issue with the notifications bar constantly dropping down when I'm trying to type something or use an app. I have checked all notifications settings and turned them all off except for messages. I've tried putting it on do not disturb. I have turned system UI alerts off but nothing works.

It just keeps popping up to show whatever the last notifications were even though I had seen them. If I clear then, it pops up with an empty notifications bar.

It's so annoying and happens intermittently.

I don't have any launchers installed and have hardly any knowledge of android but so far it's just not working for me.... Can anyone help please? Thank you.

notifications bar constantly dropping down
This must be very annoying! But let me assure you that this is not typical Android behavior.

There has to be something triggering that action. Even if you're not using a launcher, as JAy noted some launchers (including mine, ADW) include or allow that behavior--so it's possible that your default launcher does, too. I haven't used an Android device without a third-party launcher in ≈10 years, so I can't be too specific. But if you go through your system settings looking for anything related to 'gestures,' your answer may be there.

The same action can happen as part of an alert--if that's how you've set it. I'd start by going into System Settings and finding the apps you've noticed this happening with, and look at their notification settings. Make sure 'urgent' [or anything that pops up] is not selected:

Let us know if any of our suggestions helped, okay? If they haven't, don't despair! This is definitely not normal Android behavior, and we'll do our best to figure it out.

Go to settings and click on general management and than press reset settings. This worked for me and I had the same issue.

I have the same phone & the same issue was driving me crazy. Go into ur settings & turn off the finger sensor gestures. It's in mentions & gestures under advanced features.

I'm having the same issue on my Note 20 Ultra. It seems to have started after I took the ATI5 update.

"ATIS update"?? I've only heard of that for airports and aircraft, with Automatic Terminal Information Service.

I've got a Note20 Ultra myself, I bought a month ago, and so far It's not had this problem, with the notification bar dropping down by itself. This phone has had two updates since I bought it, that are mainly for the current Android security patches.

So I have a Stylo 6 with the same issue and after scouring the internet, resetting my phone, entering engineering mode, soft and hard reset, changing every setting and getting nowhere, I finally read a good solution. I turned my phone screen down, turned my screen off, and smacked the phone as hard as I could on my knee. Then the bottom, then the top, and it was done. I guess there is a pad under the earpiece that will cause that part of the digitizer to malfunction. I couldn't type, scroll, or do anything without the notification bar coming down and phantom presses. Now it's like new.

This is more of an observation than a solution, but I have noticed that when my Xperia mini does this, I can lock the screen and clean the screen surface and the problem will go away for a while. I suspect that something (fingerprints, dust, etc.) building up on the screen is causing the touch sensor to detect false touches and cleaning it helps.

Also, if you have a screen protector, some dust or moisture may have gotten between it and the glass and could do the same thing. It may be worth removing the screen protector film and cleaning the glass really well to see if the problem goes away.

have the same exact issue on my LG Stylo 6. It is maddening. Is there no better solution than smacking the phone?

I just wanted to drop a quick reply here, I can in fact tell you that your notification panel dropping randomly is the fingertip gestures. I turned the fingertip gestures on yesterday sometime and noticed my notification panel dropping randomly constantly was very annoying I turned it off and everything went back to normal this feature is quite annoying just like the always-on fingerprint scanner you can constantly feel the vibration when your finger touches the fingerprint scanner I keep that one off always too. If you're having this issue with your notification panel dropping randomly I definitely recommend you turn off the the fingertip gestures maybe they will fix this in the future with an update but until then it is a nice gimmicky tool that I will never use.

I think I have figured it out in my one, I had similar issue. I have a Nokia 5.3 stock android Android 11

Initially I faced it so i figured out it was the finger print gesture for notifications.

go to settings > finger print for notifications > disable it

should resolve the issue.

Options might be there here and there but the functionality should be same in all devices

Let me know if you guys feel that the issue is resolved

wish you a happy new year 2022 :)

It is now 2023 and I started having the issue of the notification bar dropping down on its own on an S22+. Driving for rideshare became quite a pain as every few seconds the notification bar would cover my navigation in the middle of a ride. The initial workaround was to pin the driver app, and that worked fine, but it wasn't a "fix."
Then last night, while fooling around with some settings, I realized that I had set the feature called "back tap" to bring up notifications as the action when I tapped the back of my phone twice. In the car, my phone was on a phone mount with a wireless Q charger, and that seemed to trigger the problem. So I turned off the "back tap" feature completely, and today, NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE NOTIFICATION BAR covering my screen on its own!!! A solution similar to this would be to disable any specific "shortcut" that you have enabled to show notifications by triggering a certain action on the phone.
Hope this helps someone with a phone that has this "back tap" feature.
