8K Video recording?!

It will come with 32GB internal storage and no SD slot. You'll be able to save 3.4 seconds on the device and burn a years worth of data just to stream a 14 second clip. Aside from that, I can barely tell the difference between 1080 and 4k, so 8k just seems like twice the hype.

HAHAHAHAHA

I will say though. Starting with the S10 I think the lowest storage was either 128 or 256... But 64 would be something Google would pull, lol.

On a phone screen no way you can really tell.. But there is a big different (for me) with 4k and 8k even just viewing on a good 4k TV.

Plus Samsung is getting serious with their 8K TV's, so this was inevitable I suppose.

I don't even have a 4k TV, and don't use the video camera on my phone anyway. So from my POV it's a complete meh.

I can see what Samsung are doing of course, but over the last 15 years TV manufacturers have pushed HD, 3D, 4k and now HDR and 8k, and frankly that rate of "here's something new to replace your old set" just comes across as desperate (not to mention unsustainable). And being an awkward sod, when an industry pushes that hard to invent reasons to churn kit my response is to ignore them and not care about any of it.

Some valid points there (lol)

But 4k is still life changing for me. Both from a tech perspective and content creation/absorption perspective.

Some is bogus, and fails (3d, HD-DVD, Beta, etc) but I love seeing everything change.

I haven't longed for a 4K TV but it I buying today, I suspect I'd give the tech serious consideration. 8K I'm simply out of the loop.
Just because the S20 might be capable of 8K I'm sure it will record in less. I rarely record any video with my phone so if rumors are true they won't effect me in any fashion.

You almost would have to pay *more* money for a non-4K TV at this point. 4K is amazingly cheap these days. 55" 4k Samsung like $300. That is amazing. But I feel ya.

When we purchased last the 4K was pretty new and came at a premium. Though the upgrade was discernible it simply wasn't worth the extra $ to me. Smart... big... were must have features but not so for 4K.

I feel ya, my first 4k was like that. Then once you got 4k content the *only* way to stream in 4k was a 4k smart TV. So all 4k TV's are smart. Now you have 4k fire tv, chromecast, roku, xbox, playstation, etc, lol

But I still drool at 4k games and nature shows. And now that I have Disney Plus all the Star Wars movies are in 4k... *swoons*

The only reason I have 4k is I was testing a phone and the guy running the test sent me an email telling me they were shipping me a 4k Android TV to test. That company is now out of business, but I still have the TV, and am looking to replace it. :p

Dang, I need more of those tests/companies :)

The human eye doesn't even see in 4k. It is just not biologically possible.

They are trying to fool people by using yet another different way of measuring the screen.

Remember when we measured screens diagonally? Yeah they haven't done that in a long time.

That is why people replaced their 32 inch (measured diagonally) with a 32 inch flatscreen and found that you couldn't read subtitles from across the room anymore.

Those haydays seem to be gone. I occasionally get asked to test a lightbulb or something, but the good stuff doesn't happen much anymore.

Right? lol

I've seen the video, and while he makes good points, I disagree. We *can* tell the difference, at certain distances. I can spot the difference between 4k and 1080 immediately. For a lot of reasons. And we still measure diagonally, they are just shaped differently now, so your 32" example is a thing, but that was due to widescreen format. Which we needed to get in home so line up with how things are actually shot.

Holy smokes!!!!! I mean, not only is that prohibitive from a storage standpoint, but transmitting that, by WiFi or data could be a problem depending on your plan and if 5G is available yet.

Capped at 5min vids, but WOW. Apparently they have a thing set up with YouTube to easily upload straight to your channel. Which I will absolutely test, lol. But still. Holy hell. I will miss my free upload to google photos at OQ.

I'll have to increase my 100GB plan.

Same... ugh. If I pay for storage I'd want to go Microsoft for the shared tb's and office installs. But google has promised updates to subscription plans in Q1, mostly to do with Nest packages, but we need to see some GoogleOne storage bundles as well.
