Anyone here unsatisfied?

I love my phone. Avoid random OS happenings by being very aware of what applications you download.

The downside to open source of anything in life, is that you are never guaranteed 100% fluidity. I have noticed with all my Android products ( G1, Mytouch, Evo ) when I have too much crap from Market, primarily when I go on a 4 am Download binge to see everything the Market has to offer; my phone then has issues.

Just be smart, and anything you do to **** up your phone, is your fault. Remember that.

I've been kicking around returning mine. I honestly like it and it's by far better than the BlackBerry Pearl I've had on T-Mobile for the last few years (Yeah, I was in the stone age :D). The only thing I'd returnit for is the Droid X on Verizon. I believe the plans would be within $10 of each other with Verizon obviously being more expensive. But first I want to see the detailed specs of the Droid X and how it really compares. I'm definitely disappointed in the camera and video capabilites of the phone. My problems with that are that the specs don't live up anywhere near to the hype that Sprint put out there, not even close. I know what you'll say, buy a camera. That's not the point, I have a 9.1 megapixel Sony camera that will shoot 1080p video. The point is, I don't always have my camera with me, but the phone I do and should live up to the boasting Sprint did and should deliver in spades, not sputters. Had I known the Droid X were even in the works I would have waited until it arrived to compare the two before deciding as I'd been contractless since November.

Can anyone tell me how Verizons 3g compares to Sprints 3g as far as download speeds go? I live in a 4g region, but I've been less than impressed with any signal I've gotten so far. I am very impressed with Sprint's 3g however and won't even consider switching to Verizon if it is noticeably slower.

Funny enough Jimmy Burns....one of the only phones I was happy with WAS the blackberry pearl...until social networking came around and 40 mb of memory didn't work so well.
Yep, I can believe it. One of my buddies said that the Pearl was one of his favorite phones too, but he wasn't dealing with T-Mobile either.

Hell, I'm sure a lot of my pains were T-Mobile's Edge network and how it was always bogging down and locking up whenever downloading anything. Well, that and I really started to envy the big screens.

I'm not dissatisfied, but I am unsatisfied. There are just so many minor issues that add up, and for $440 ($199+($10*24 months)) it's just really hard to justify.

1. The big one: TERRIBLE WiFi reception. I leave BlueTooth off, but that does nothing to help my WiFi. I get almost no reception in places where my laptop reception is excellent. It's not just the indicator either, the reception is actually very bad - to the point where it's faster for me to use 3G.

2. The newly discovered one: I was downright astounded to see Chris Pirillo's comparison between the iPhone 4 camera and the EVO camera. The video quality is sub-par, and the audio quality is HORRENDOUS. If you haven't seen it, look here: YouTube - iPhone 4 vs Evo Mash Up

3. Screen separation. I don't mind the light leakage, but the screen separation indicates a generally poor build quality. I worry about dust getting under the screen, and it has a negative impact on the tactile experience of the device. Running my finger off the top or sides of the screen feels nice. Running my finger off the bottom feels jarring.

4. 30fps limit. At least with this one I trust there will be a software update eventually, but it's a frustration.

5. Grounding issues. For the amount of money I've paid and am expected to continue to pay for this device, I should be able to use it in a car dock without worrying about whether the screen will correctly interpret my touch input.

6. Unusable FM radio. I've heard this uses the same chip as the WiFi, which would make sense since neither work for me. No matter what I do (different headphones, etc), I can only get one radio station. This, despite the fact that I live only a mile away from a radio tower for a different radio station.

7. I don't even get 4G in my neighborhood. I take issue with the $10 fee in general, but I'd be more accepting of it if I were actually getting something extra for it. I at least live near a 4G market, so I get to use it when I drive an hour into the city. Unfortunately, that's not where I spend most of my time.

8. Battery life. This is actually the least important issue for me. If the above issues didn't exist, I wouldn't even care about the battery life. Instead, it's just one more slightly negative experience to add on top of all the other slightly negative experiences. Put them all together, and it makes it a real challenge to be happy with this phone.

If I were the only one effected by my decision, I'd probably return my Evo. Unfortunately for me, my girlfriend is easier to please and she is very happy with hers. She's also coming to Evo from using a flip phone, so she's just happy to be able to use the internet and apps on her phone in the first place. I have more experience with smart phones, so I'm a little harder to please. Even so, the option is still in the back of my mind and I'm ready to have a serious discussion with her about why we should return our phones and go with the Droid X if it seems HTC won't be retroactively addressing these issues.

I've stated my opinion of the Evo in another thread. I've since returned it and went back to verizon and I am awaiting the droid x

I lurk here because the people are nice and knowledgeable(well most anyway)

Personally i have had about 70% of the issues that people complain about.

Random Freezing, reboots
Grounding issues
Screen seperation/light leakage
etc etc

but even so i would have stayed with the Evo if it wasn't on Sprint because
even with those flaws this is literally the best I've played with.

As stated in other threads, this is your 1st smartphone and I am shocked that
you are not nearly "OH MY GOD ITS THE BEST THING EVER" coming from a flip phone lol

I've used other android phones so its isn't a big as a jump for me as it is for you
but if i had been using my lg env touch or even that samsung alias 2 i'd probably die from the excitement of using the EVO.

Its a good phone on a subpar carrier but perhaps you should wait for the Samsung Galaxy Pro coming soon

Will this is my first smartphone and I'm happy with it for the most part. I haven't had any grounding issues, but I do have the light leakage which really doesn't bother me.

A few things that can be improved upon maybe with an update or a patch.

1. The video camera at 720 P should have better video quality and not drop frames and such.

2. Battery life, I did do a few modifications to my Evo so that the battery won't be drained so fast but it's only helped a little. Still these companies should add a longer lasting battery when customers buy these types of phones.

Starting to wonder if I got the best built EVO around or something, as I'm not having any of the issues people are complaining about with my EVO. No freezing up, no lagging, no random shutting off, great battery life, no grounding issues, no light leakage, and Swype fixed any texting issues that I had.

Hardware V.3 picked up 5 days after release.

Seriously?
LMFAO

Also, idk if the troll comment was directed at me or not(if so, i am far from a troll)

Sprint is a subpar carrier who is just now starting to rebuild itself. Just because you in "10 years" received "great" service doesn't mean i can't think
or believe sprint is subpar.

Search the web, Sprint is said to have actually improved its customer service this year which makes me wonder "Just how bad" sprint was.

Anyway, I better keep my comments to myself because if you speak ill of HTC, EVO(or in this case) you are automatically a troll lol :)

Good morning to all

I've been nothing but happy with Sprint. Their data network consistently performs near the top, and their voice network roams on Verizon, so coverage should be prettty good. Some people want a cell phone with good data service / coverage for a good price, other people want the red carpet rolled out for them when they call into customer service. Personally I'm content to deal with morons / hang up on them for the *rare* occasion that I call in.

As for the phone, I dunno it sounds like you were building it up too much in your head. It is a really cool phone but at the same time, it's still just a phone, not a new way of life. OK for some of us it IS. :)
