Aside from the super AMOLED screen, the epic will also not have a 30 fps limitation, it will have 24 bit (16 milllion colors) vs evos 65k colors, and record with real 720p video because of the better codec

truth. me personally i love the slab form factor so no go for me. But my bro who has a moment was talkin about getting the Evo but i told him wait for this if he still wants a keyboard. And my wife also wants it if it isnt too big in hand. We'll see

Aside from my issues with HTC, if i were still on Sprint then I would probably get the epic.

While I hate sliders(as long as it has swype and a good virtual keyboard) i am down for it.

I said it before but spec wise i think it is on par with the evo and even better in other areas as far as the processors go.

If i am not mistaken snapdragon is slower than the ones used in the X(which i am getting) and the the Galaxy s phone variants and it has that gorgeous screen.

HTC sense was pretty on the hero but it's kind of boring now because not much has been done to it like they have to touchwiz and motoblur.

The only new thing sense has is leap....which i rarely used

It also is supposed to have a much more rich multi-media experience then the evo and also has a wonderful social integration from what i hear...all sense does is friendstream

So overall i believe on early impression from what i've seen and read the Epic is the better phone and I would certainly get it if i were a sprint customer still.

However when it is released it might not be the better phone but spec wise ehh i will take the epic

Evo. Screen is .3 bigger, which is more significant than it may seem. I'm not going smaller ever again. Kickstand, I'm surprised at how much I use it. Bummed to not see the other superphones that are coming out adding them.

I do absolutely hate touch screen typing though. Given myself time to get used to it and it still sucks. Hate having to look at a keyboard to type. But I just installed Swype and it's fun, we'll see if I like it after the novelty wears off, if so no hard keyboard won't be a big deal. I actually love the small portrait hard keyboards on BB's and Palms though over these landscape sliders..Much faster typing on the small ones with less finger travel needed.

Epic kicks everybody's butt, including my Inc. You folks are on some kind of funky mushrooms to think otherwise ;)

If this puppy was on VZW, I would consider selling my Inc to get one. Strike that- I WOULD sell my Inc. Heck, I would consider selling it if the VZW version had the 16gb built-in like the Tmo version- even with no keyboard.

Tmo version not having a flash is dumb as heck.

added:

Sprint has gotten themselves a nice winner with Epic- assuming Sammy keep to their word and does the major Android updates- like they said.

I don't know how Samsung is going to keep up with demand from releasing on all carriers. Hope those super amoled screens aren't tough to make.

Key reason Inc got screwed and other devices planned for this year going to LCD now is because of Sammy's global roll-out. Sammy will not run out on themselves ;)

BTW, if the screen is the same as the Euro version, you folks, Inc and Droid X will all be jealous, since the super amoled looks good in sunlight and has even better color than the non-super amoled.

4" is close to perfect, for non-tablet-like devices ;)

a .3" screen isn't much of a difference, I mean really, it's big enough to be luxurious, yet small enough to appeal to the masses. Perfect. And the Super AMOLED wipes the floor with evo's screen.

Now, to see how that 4G radio performs.....

It's a noticeable difference. Same .3" as a Hero vs iPhone screens, and there's a pretty big difference between those in size. For me it's like a big screen TV, I'll never go smaller than my 55", bigger probably but definitely not smaller.

In my opinion, if the Epic runs graphics smoothly at over 30 fps, and doesn't have radio lockout issues like the Moment, it's superior to our Evo's. That is, unless HTC actually decides to do anything about our horrible graphics drivers. Until that magic point in time, our Evo's are just the next novelty junk phone in the Android lineup to br replaced by one that functions properly.

Tough choice. I like the EVO for screen size and like the HTC UI way more then the rather plain looking one from Samsung. That being said, the screen is pretty nice and if the U.S. galaxy S phones are going to be able to do what the European ones do (namely output ALL video to a TV not just movies) then that will be tough to pass up. But I hate sliders, so EVO probably will still take the prize for Androids as far as I am concerned. For now at least. But damn...I really want a video out that displays games and photos and other things besides just the limited HDMI out that the EVO has. Everything should come out of a video cable, not just some things!

Oh...and for those that asked earlier, yes...per the Sprint chart that Engadget had a view days ago, the $10 surcharge will apply to the Epic as well.

Oh if there's no radio lockout or other glaring issues, the epic 4G trumps the EVO big time. That snapdragon can't just hold up to the hummingbird, and something tells me the epic 4g won't have any physical defects like the evo, either.

And to most people, 4.3" is just too big. 4" however, somehow looks better to them, so so be it. And when comparing side to side in a Sprint store, you can't tell me someone won't pick the Super AMOLED over old LCD stuff.

So faster, and more solidly built? Keep in mind Samsung also preloads a bunch of video codecs in their phones that HTC doesn't have....

Trust me you don't want amoled on your phone! I had amoled before switching to evo and I hated it you cannot see the screen at all out in the sunlight, you have to find a shady spot to make a call and even then it's still extremely difficult to see the screen.

They look great in a dimly lit room but that is it...

Not to mention that Samsung support is crap, we will be rockin Froyo sometime this month, the Epic will be lucky to have Froyo sometime this year given Samsungs track record.

Evo without a doubt. Of course since the Epic is not out yet it's a little difficult to make a good comparison. But just on specs.

Size wise I prefer the Evo for the larger screen and the Epic is much thicker (almost 2mm) - due the the physical keyboard (which slides out landscape so I guess you use virtual to type portrait).

Looks wise, the evo has a better design. The epic is one ugly device with the rounded ends paired with the massive thickness. I guess if you are going to keep it in your purse (women or men) it would be fine. If it is built as cheap as it looks, the evo will be an award winner in comparison.

From what I heard SAMOLED has addressed the issue of using your phone outdoors. Even on the evo it's hard to see if you're under a sunlit sky. :)

I am one of the believers that Super AMOLED hasn't delivered on all of it's promises. LED certainly has it's potential, but IMHO it's failed to eclipse the latest and greatest Super TFT LCD's except in brightness.

Still, we need you early adopters to jump on all of the AMOLED devices that are released. Get that technology perfected for us!

Oh you have no idea, you cannot even see an amoled screen in sunlight, it is completely black as if the phone is off LOL. Just the nature of the screen it can't get better in sunlight, Wait until Epic is released we will see many complaints about using it in sunlight. Amoled technology is not fit for phone use regardless if you add a super monikor before it or not. I will never buy another phone with amoled screen again LOL It is that bad.

I think Caloy is trying to say that SUPER amoled fixed a lot of the issues of REGULAR amoled. So unless you've actually seen SUPER amoled first hand then you can't really assume it will perform exactly like amoled. In fact look at engadget's comparison of iphone's retina display vs SUPER amoled.

I haven't had a single person in a month say the phone was too big. The Epic I'm guessing will actually be a bigger phone, definitely thicker. What makes you think it won't have defects? Most phones do, the Moment was a disaster.

I think you're talking about AMOLED. I'm talking about SAMOLED (The S is for Super :p). Here's a comparison: http://koltregaskes.amplify.com/201...-amoled-vs-lcd-vs-samoled-in-direct-sunlight/

Nice video BTW. Thanks to who ever took it. :D

Not to burst your bubble, but I haven't read one review that has anything positive to say about motoblur. The best thing I read about it on the X is it has improved slightly from the older versions but still does not come close to Sense.....

But whatever helps you sleep at night......ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The Epic is actually longer, thicker, and about the same width.

With that said Epic easily. So happy Sprint sold out of Evo's before I could order one cause the Epic with it's keyboard was exactly what I was looking for. But since I'm coming from a 4 1/2 year old Nokia I don't see how I could be unhappy with either of the two.
