I have a theory...

The official car kit for Desire was scheduled to 23 June (or 21st?...I'm not sure). There was a rumor that HTC will offer an update to froyo for Desire on.... 23 June (coincidence?).
More than that, on the product page for the car kit they say that the product "automatically activates the NaviPanel interface" which does not exist currently on Desire. I believe they were supposed to release an update by that date to include the NaviPanel app (hence the rumor).

Recently the product launch was postponed to 21st August (because the update was not ready?). I really don't think it's that hard to build the damn thing to justify this delay so they must have other reasons.

Yesterday the guys at XDA forum released a leaked froyo+sense ROM for Desire (which includes NaviPanel app renamed to "CarPanel"). This could mean HTC is almost done with froyo ROM development so 21 August seems like a good bet for the launch date.

What do you guys think?

May i know what is special in white screen with the letters HTC in green??? it comes always when we switch ON the mobile.... please correct me if I am wrong...

Mine stays there and wont go away unless I remove the battery (although it is now "copying files" from the "rootedupdate.zip" on the SD card, though the green bar seems stuck in place at the moment....

Have you tried to do a factory reset of your phone or you simply can't get out of the Green HTC letters loop?

Forgive me, but whats so key about it starting with a white screen and HTC in green text?

Mine has done that from the start

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The key part was that it wouldn't progress past this screen.

I'm wary of this thread getting side tracked as this was just down to me making an error somewhere along the line, and rooting using the Linux CD worked perfectly.

What do you mean void warranty though? You mean like if one of the buttons breaks? Because you can flash back to the default rom before you send the device back.

Here's are two totally noob questions:

Can you "unroot" a phone?

If you root an unlocked Desire, can you still recieve official OTA updates from HTC? Also, if you put a Froyo or stock ROM on your phone, can you get an official Froyo version when it comes out?

Thanks.

The one thing I have been waiting for most in Froyo is the ability to save apps to SD. Now that Froyo is out and about, I hear there are 2 main flaws with this:

1. Some apps specially ones that are PRIVATE ie mainly paid for ones become disabled when you take the SD card out of its slot. Currently people are having problems installing these apps without buying them againn.

2. Again to do with ejecting or rebooting, after rebooting apparently the widgets/programs you have running on the phone does not work properly having to relaunch them again. So for example you have a weather widget on your home page, this will disappear?? and you have to launch it agian. Sounds a pain!

Does anyone know anything about these?

Just wondering, do you change your sdcard often? If not it really wont be a problem. You'll always have your backups (titanium or a nandroid with root) if you do remove the sdcard. If you do remove it often, then rooted app2sd is probably not going to be practical for you.

Widgets are fine aslong as you put them on the phone. The problems that occur with them are from app2sd that's not froyo 'app2sd' where all installs are forced to the sd card. Any widgets or launcher's would have to be moved to the phone after install to ensure they work correctly. Any other issues with a widget is related to the ROM that's being used on the phone.

Also if you use launcherPro you'll have to reboot it after phone startup so all your installed apps will show in the programme list.

Froyo's app2sd requires the dev of the app to have enabled moving it to the sd card, rooted app2sd is where you can force things to the sdcard, just be aware that this could cause problems if the app isn't designed for it.

The thing with Apps2SD is that it's under the control of the developers. So it's up to developers to enable Apps2SD in their apps. I can say at the moment, of my 60 3rd party apps I have downloaded, only 6 are Apps2SD enabled.

This is a running list of all the Apps2SD apps on the Market currently: http://androidforums.com/android-applications/105650-froyo-apps-2-sd-list.html

1) I have not tried, so can't comment.
2) Yes/No it depends on the widgets/apps. If the developer updated the app to work with 2.2 then this problem is nil. If not, yeah...pain :(

You might want to read this thread that contains issues that people updating to 2.2 faced on their Nexus Ones: http://androidforums.com/nexus-one/88300-android-2-2-problems-post-them-here.html

I do not change my SD card at all, but do take it out of the phone a lot as I find this way easier to transfer files etc, especially when not using my own computer. I think I take it out about once a week, to transfer photos and music.

But thanks for the info guys!:)

Currently only a tiny minority of Android handsets are running 2.2. Hell, some are still on 1.5/1.6. When a lot more migrate to 2.2 then there will be much more pressure on the devs to make their apps SD friendly. Until then they are only pissing off a tiny minority and some may not care about that or may be busy fixing issues for the 99% of their users who can't use the facility yet anyway!
