[Horror Story] Asurion will ONLY give you an Eris for your Droid as of yesterday afternoon

UPDATE: got my droid today from my call to asurion friday... volume rocer doesnt work. they said they have no more droids and i will be getting an ERIS tomorrow. let the arguing begin... im on hold ;)

I thought we had a good story here but nope.

Let us know what the outcome is. I started a cliam online to see what the options were and they only offered the Devour and Ally...I simply cancelled the claim and I'll call them to argue if need be.

Here's my Motorola Droid story...

Left droid in cab...cab left, couldn't track it down. Reported it lost/stolen and contacted Asurion. I was told I could get an LG Ally or Motorola Devour as the Motorola Droid was no longer in production...I was not happy.

I told them my insurance would be canceled on all 3 phones and would never look back...they didn't seem to mind.

Furious, the next day I stomped my way into a verizon wireless store and asked to speak with a manager right away.

Manager sees I'm not happy, he's a good manager because he wants to make me happy. He tells me they can do an in store replacement since I'm traveling on business. (Wasn't really traveling, just had a meeting downtown...about a 20 minute drive away). Now I'm happy.

Even got me a free case, even though my droid wasn't cased when I left it in the cab.

$90 and a few moments later, I walked out of the store with a brand new Motorola Droid. Still thinking of canceling my Asurion though, as now it's of no use to me if they can't replace my phone...however if they can replace it with an Incredible...hmm, might file a new claim in a few weeks...;)

So yes, screw you Asurion...Motorola Devour = Motorola Droid, heck no.

Ya that is what im probably going to do. I think because the phone i got from asurion is new, it should have a new warranty. Since the rocker doesnt work, maybe i just need to take it in the verizon and have them replace it.

I am still going to call back asurion tomorrow morning and see if they will give some more lattitude with all this bullcrap they put me through (replaced my droid with a droid that deosnt work right)(hung up on me after explainging to them the differences between the droid and "comparable phones") and "upgrade" the droid to what some people have been saying they will do now.

Most likely they wont so hopefully Verizon takes care of this because it is a hardware problem and technically not asurian's fault.

New phones are always fun though :)

what a crock... went to verizon today because it is a hardware warranty problem. they said they would have a new droid sent to me in 2 days, but it will only have a 90 day warranty instead of the 1 year my insurance claim has. I told them i need the 1 year "just in case".

So verizon calls asurion and has no problem sending me out a new DROID today.

Recap: 8:30pm last night no droids... 10am today they have droids. WTF?

The Verizon rep I spoke to yesterday did not have a clue as to what Asurion was offering for replacements. I really hope that if/when something happenes to my phone I don't end up with an Eris. I didn't pay money for a junk phone like that. I paid for a Droid.

And I say "if/when" because I seemed to be cursed with phones... April '09 went through 2 LG Vues through ATT, Nov '09 replaced 1 mo old LG ENV3 from VZW, again in March & April then replaced with LG ENVtouch. The only phones I've never had trouble with were Blackberrys.

Pretty sure I'll end up with an X in the next 6 months.

Look guys, they are not going to be out of Droids forever. Remenber, they give out refurbished phones for the most part.
So it doen't matter that Motorola isn't making the Droid any more. As time goes on, they will find more and more Droids to refurbish and give out. It's in their best interest to do this rather than giving out brand new Droid X's.

They might be out right now, but chances are that if you need to file a claim with Asurion in the next few months, they will have a Droid waiting for you.

Ok here is MY story to let you all know that it is possible to get a "comperable" phone. I called Asurion after starting my claim online. The website told me that they could offer me the Devour, the Ally or a back ordered Droid. I chose to call because the first two were unacceptable, as you would notice from reading nearly any of these posts.

I called, talked to a woman and told her this. None of them were acceptable and I use my phone a lot for business. She asked me to explain to her WHY I didn't like these choices. I told her that they were not even in the same ball park and that they shouldn't consider these to be "comperable." She put me on a short, hold to speak with their "Advanced Technical Support" and then cam back to tell me they could give me the Incredible. I told her that would work and she said alright. The end.

Press them and let them know that these phones are not comperable. It is possible to get what you want.

I asked Asurion in an email if the Droid-to-Eris rumor was true... here's what I got in reply:

"Thank you for your email inquiry. Insurance claims may be fulfilled with
new or remanufactured equipment. If the exact model is not available,
replacement will be of like kind and quality."Then I guess it's up to US to convince them that an Eris is NOT comparable.

You try talking contract language to some toon on a phone. They'll stone wall you, say they don't have X, offer y, then offload responsibliity on verizon, claiming that they're only allowed to replace X with 1, 2, 3.

You want my advice? With all these android phones coming out from HTC and Motorola, the companies stop manufacturing them the second the next model's out. That means insurance is going to have dick all to give you.

Drop your insurance carriers after 3 mo's on your smart phones, esp. your androids. Don't get suckered into 499-7,99 a month plus a 90$ deductible for some sub standard crap.

As much as this sucks, I will always get insurance because even though I get a new phone about every year, if something happens - I will pay $90 and not $450 downgrade or not.

Having said that I would have called verizon to complain - you are still THEIR customer, even though you have to go through the insurance company.

Take a look at the insurance contract - you may be able to call them on it, and if you are paying for a service and they don't honor their contract - go to the BBB and the FTC for unfair business practices.
Asurion won't want to deal with that, and somehow they will find a Droid.

Well i had actually had this problem before this whole asurion thing came about. I dropped my droid didn't want to turn back on filed a claim they had only offered me a eris or a droid1. Droid1 was on back-order. I called them and asked what can they do they said nothing so i filed the claim anyways on the back-order droid1.

I did all this around 9pm PST Thursday and once my claim went through i got a tracking # around 11pm and got my new droid on friday. So all that about it being on back-order was bull crap.

Here's my story, my wife's Droid 1 went for a swim. I did the online claim first and got to the part where it made me choose comparable phones. The "Devour", "Ally", "Eris" and backordered Droid were my choices. I gave Asurion a call over the phone and explained to them what happened. I let them know that the choices that were given were not comparable phones. I then asked about the incredible, she put me on hold to talk to Advanced Tech Support, after 2 minutes of waiting, she told me that they were backordered for about 3 to 4 weeks but she would still place the order. So the order was placed, now it's just a waiting game. In the mean time, put my wife on my old POS Storm 1. She's gonna have to suffer for a few weeks, but she does have an incredible coming.

That's very similar to what I had to do to get to get my Droid. Although I have another phone as a primary, I told VZW that I wasn't settling for the Ally or the Devour. There's a reason they're collecting dust in their warehouses and it isn't because the Droid is slowing down in production. They suck.

I just wanted a Droid in return so when asking, I deliberately said "Droid." I do wonder what would have happened if I had really been a stickler and said no Devour, Eris, or Ally but still on Android. If she said the Droid, I would have asked for something a bit better and possibly gotten the DInc.

Wistful thinking, but Droid or DInc, it would have taken a backseat to my other phone so...

Moral is, be persistent. Telling them it's your primary phone (no home phone) should have some leverage. I used being a college student and being 800 miles away from home too. But it as true, so I was sensationalizing not lying.

read up on the Inc, I have a feeling that some of you may be very unhappy once you get it. Ive seen more than one post that the Inc has the same "silent call" issue as the Eris.....good luck...

Still, if the D1 is not an option, the INC is a much better phone than the Eris.

I'm waiting to see how this plays out. For now, I can live with my cracked screen and rock solid overclocking stability. If I hear about X's replacing D1's, I'll probably jump on the bandwagon.
