I just think he meant galaxy s phones are available around the world on a vast amount of carriers where as the instinct was only available on sprint. You guys keep slamming Samsung for their past but you're failing to look at the present.

Every living thing learns from their past experience, it's only a natural thing to do. We don't know fire is dangerous unless somehow you got burned at least once. Unless Samsung has proven otherwise, you cannot fault people looking at Samsung's past failures. I'm afraid that you'll still see a number of people not trusting Samsung, especially if they got burned the first time.

I understand when you're saying that the Galaxy S line is a Global phone and that Samsung will treat this differently simply because there are more people on the line. But no-matter how you cut it, they still haven't proven they will treat their customers better. Perhaps, I will be able to consider Samsung on their next Generation phones when they have proven that they will not leave their current customers behind like they did with the Moment and the Behold II.

True. For me, software updates won't be an issue because I'll load custom roms on the phone, but I can definitely understand why some other people would be wary.

Well I never shamed samsung. Their new device is pretty soon. All I said was that the 6 billion figure made no sense.

Yeah and if that's the case then 6 billion people still don't have access regardless. Why because the signal is in the air? Regardless its a ridiculous statistic that makes no sense at all no matter how you justify it.

And the numbers DO make sense. I'd be willing to wager 6 Billion people DO INDEED have access to a cellular signal that can run a Galaxy S series phone.

And if you had half a logical thinking process, you would have immediately researched the globes entire current population, which is estimated at 6.8+ Billion people. So take away 865,300,000 people (yeah, nearly a full billion, which is probably OVER estimating TBH) who don't have access to this phone, and that leaves you with a pretty solid 6 Billion person market. Not saying 6 Billion phones will be sold, or anything near it, but it's the markets that were being compared.

You need to learn the difference between Customers and Potential customers(Which would be the market, duh).

first time i bought a samsung...i went through 4 ..........frist time i bought an htc...currently still have one. who in their rightful mind would make the same mistake over again? or choose to do so? if the epic is in face the shit, then i'll let the DUCKS figure that out on their own. then an only then will i switch....but hell, by that time, the next big SHIT is gonna be out for htc...and as of now, htc has my good ratings and buyer loyalty points

I have a friend who has an instinct, she loves it. I think the problem with that phone is that it was supposed to be an iphone killer but Samsung didn't really have the experience in developing a platform the way microsoft, google or apple do.

Samsung makes great flip phones (I have a samsung a920 that I still love). But flip phones don't require support. People are now expect support from the developer of the smartphone software. It does remain to be seen if Samsung can deliver in this area.

We'll see how they handle the GPS issue.

Got a chance to fool around with the epic today.. some know I work for Sprint some dont but.. no way am I dropping my evo for this. The screen is great but thats about it for me. They do the training classes for all new phones here and aside from the screen, pass. Took the gps about 4 minutes just to get a lock standing outside under open sky. Touchwiz lags like crazy especially when it comes to running memory intensive apps. The pics/vids are ok.. definitely not enough of a difference to make me switch. I really hate the feel of it.. its real plastic like. I'm sure there are many thatll like it but not I. Honestly i'd probably like it more with vanilla android but touchwiz is ass. For those hoping to see a huge performance gain due to the processor as compared to the evo... good luck with that one.

People in general that think the epic or galaxy s will have a bigger community. Keep in mind you will have a cdma epic and not gsm so regardless what's happening with the other phone communities, it doesnt apply to you. The epic is the minority in the bunch and will affect growth.

just because its cdma doesnt mean other devs wont make a cdma version of a rom they made.

you played with it what a few hours at most and you make a decision you can turn touch wiz off or you could download awd or launcher pro

i dont think people understand that samsung is investing a lot in the galaxy s line since its being released EVERYWHERE not only is the screen better because of super amoled but its also got gorilla glass so its very scratch resistant..

samsung has big plans for the galaxy s line especially with the samsung media or whatever where you can buy/rent movies/tv shows

everyone saying they had to install swype guess what epic comes stock with it. : )

im going with the epic and a lot of people with evos are just fanboys.

this is exactly what a fanboy would say.

I would consider 9 hours a bit longer than a few at most.. the bottom line is the huge performance gain everyone seems to think they're going to get with the hummingbird processor with this phone is pretty non-existent. That seems to be the major point everyone keeps harping on but honestly its not even the case. Anyone that follows my phone history on ppcgeeks knows I show no loyalty to a phone and if it was better it'd be nothing for me to get it. BUT honestly, its no upgrade. Like I said the screen is cool and even if you do use launcherpro touchwiz is STILL using memory. The only way youll stop that is if you root it and flash a new rom to remove it altogether.

And yea... the gps issue is obviously still there. I got an instant lock vs 4 minutes for the epic. And even then we had to use a gps primer from the market for it to get a lock. I wont lie I wouldnt mind having the screen.. its the best i've seen by far but everything else..meh.. im going to stick with the evo and see what else comes out later this year.

Just a thought - the issues on both phones are interesting enough without name-calling.

did you get mod today?congrats if you did...

im not trying to say that the epic doesnt have faults cause it does i personally think the epic will suit me better than the evo would and thats what it comes down to.

people call others fanboy alot in this forum but the thing is on the epic forum there are evo owners who come there to make threads about how the evos better all i have to say is atleast we dont clutter your forum with random threads.

Yep, newly minted today, thanks.

Yeah - no worries, I'm not calling that out.

Freedom of speech is a good thing in the exchange of ideas (duh!) - and we all get a little passionate and let's face it - at any time, any of us are guilty of a little fanboyism.

As long as it doesn't turn to flames - or outright name calling. As I write this, we have about 1100 members logged in and posting right now - and over 5600 guests viewing the exchange.

Good exchanges turn those guests into members - bad ones may cause them to look elsewhere.

Defending ideas or devices in sister forums is ok (I think) - trolling is not. Use the tip button or PM me if there's something needing attention.

As my new sig says - it's our forum, so let's keep it cool.

I went to Sprint today to check out the Epic, and here is my first impressions:

The phone is a lot lighter, and feels more natural in my hand then the EVO, the screen is quite crisp, however I thought the colors looked oversaturated and unnatural on the epic, at least compared to the EVO. The buttons were not as responsive as my evo, and did notice some lag swiping through screens, not too bad, but def noticeable. My evo never lags, and is always very responsive. 4g is apparently on here in South Florida, because it showed 3 bars of 4g, however when going to sites, I noticed it took a lot longer even on 4g compared to evo, maybe because its still running 2.1. There is definitely a screen size difference, it may not seem like much, but you notice it right away when going to websites. I will say the pinch and zoom is very fluid, and smooth. The marketplace loaded quicker then the evo which I found interesting. I dloaded homerun battle, and noticed it ran smoother, however, the colors just looked slightly off and over saturated. The dialer is a lot quicker then the evo's, seems like it doesnt lag like the htc sense dialer does. The build quality was very good, did not feel plasticky, felt solid. The camera I really liked, the dedicated camera button should be on every high end phone, makes it so much more comfortable and easier to take pics, and the quality was very good. I tested the call quality and noticed that the Epic is louder then my evo, by a lot it seems. The speaker was very loud as well. The keyboard is one of the better ones I used, still imho I think the G1 had the best keyboard, but this one is def up there, big keys, spacious, and has a good feel to it. Overall, I still feel the evo is the one to beat because it looks more professional with Sense, and seems a bit quicker in some aspects. If the evo did not come out I would be typing this on the epic. I just think HTC is going to have something even better over the next few months. With that said, if you are a heavy texter and love physical keyboards, this is a great choice, either way you can not go wrong with either phone, I just happened to prefer the evo for its screensize and HTC sense, plus the epic does not have 2.2 yet, so we shall see when it comes, and how it effects the epic. Sprint has come a long way and has 2 outstanding phones, which is a great sign of things to come...

im not hearing too much hoooplah over the epic, as was the evo on launch....is it just me or does anyone else notice also?

on a side note, i was at the barbershop and they had a chick i knew from Sprint, and of course, the evo comes up in convo....soon after the epic, and she said the epic is still in stock at her corporate location. then i said the only thing i like is the samoled and gorilla glass, and she argued with me about it not having it....blah blah blah...]]

one last thing, who else doesnt like landscape mode on their evo? i turn the auto rotate function off...just another reason why the epic is not for me...

also, isnt lcd better to view in sunlight over samoled or amoled?

You can't be serious about the over saturation...
