I'm coming around on BB V0.5 now that there are patches to fix the search button and to restore the default auto brightness settings. I installed the Sense theme, and I'm pretty thrilled with how it looks (I can't go without a black notification bar after using UD8). The port of the Sense clock widget is a neat bonus too.

If Blackdroid doesn't release UD9 soon I might become very partial to this ROM. I miss a few of the customization tweaks of UD8 (especially hitting the menu button to unlock the lock screen to avoid having to swipe out of the lock screen every time I turn on the screen), but this is a very solid ROM. I like the feeling of not needing to use Set CPU!

I have read every post on this rom, i also made sure i followed the exact instructions from pete. I was coming from simply stunning(which i loved) and noticed pete mentioned that his rom searched for backups from simply stunning folder. So when i let the phone reboot, it comes back and everything i had was all installed waiting for me. I have also not had a single problem with the market, i never had to clear any cache on market for it to work right. I had no problems installing kernals, updates etc. I use rom manager for most of everything, works like a charm, not sure where all your droids come from. I have never had a rebooting issue on any rom i have used, i have always been able to install the highest speed kernals with no over heating, my droid must have come from a special line or something, sorry about all these problems people are having, i rate this rom a 5 out of 5 for smoothness and ease of use.

Hey everyone!

Great ROM. This is the first custom ROM that I have loaded on my Droid and it is running great except for one problem. My Wifi is acting up. The phone can only hold a connection for a few minutes now. Right after this ROM was initially loaded it worked fine. The problems started after I did 2 things so I'm not sure which could be causing the problems.

1. I installed the LCD Density changer app from the market.
2. I followed the steps listed earlier in the thread to fix the search button issue.

I can remove the Density app if thats the problem tho. Is running those commands for the search button have anything to do with my wifi acting strange???? If so, I would rather have wifi and no search button :) . How can I reverse the fix if that is the culprit?

I think I might know what Pete was referring to as *epic* back when he was working on v.05 before FRG22D came out...

The disappearance of... HOMESCREEN REDRAWS AND LAG.

I didn't want to speak ahead of myself when I installed BB v.05. At times I've gotten excited about whatever ROM I was using and didn't allow enough time to use it in various usage patterns. Always, until now, I gave my .02 after only a few hours or single day of usage, and then I would discover the flaws I should have seen before.

But I honestly believe BB v.05 is different. Maybe it's because I wiped data and cache 3x, I don't know, but what I do know is that one of the biggest gripes I've had with my Droid is that it seemed that no matter what ROM I used, there were always flaws, lag and redraws if I was online long enough, texting long enough, emailing long enough. Not so with this BB version!

I was using CyanogenMod 6.0 before this and loved it, but had some minor bluetooth annoyances with it and experienced occasional lag and homescreen redraws.

Pete tweeted a while back that he wouldn't release v.05 until it was... well... PERFECT. And with this release of BB v.05, in my opinion, Pete delivered on his word because after 3 days of heavy usage, I cannot find a single flaw. Not one!

Pete, I am about to send you yet another generous donation!

You make some very good points. I appreciate your thoroughness. But because v.05 works flawlessly for me where other *elite* have not, I have to disagree with your low rating. 2 out of 5 stars is not even average in my book, and v.05 should be rated a 4 at the very least.

Coming from CyanogenMod 6.0, having lots of features and speed are important to me. However, it is more important to me that my Droid behaves predictably 100% of the time. If I use a ROM and experience even occasional lag and homescreen redraws, then not even the feature-rich CyanogenMod 6 will keep me happy for long.

Pete's insistence that we adhere to a strict installation procedure is what inspired me to wipe data and cache 3x, which I've not done before (and I admit may be partially if not wholly responsible for lag issues in the past), so I don't see that as a negative at all. If this inspires others, as it did me, to take more time to do a correct install, then this has been a good thing.

Anyway, everyone has an opinion of course, and their own experiences to draw from. I just happen to think that in terms of sheer performance, this version of BB is the best I've tried to date.

I only wiped once, and I had a problem free installation. As far as I'm concerned, a wipe is a wipe. I'm wondering what basis people have for suggesting otherwise.

I agree with your assessment, this ROM deserves a minimum of four stars.

There was a thread around here somewhere that was discussing this very topic. The one wipers vs the 3-4 wipers were divided about evenly. Most of the hardcore tech people said there IS NO difference with 1 wipe vs 3 wipes and suggested that the Dev's tell us to wipe three times so that we are sure to wipe at least once. If you always wipe data and cache 3 times you will never find yourself installing a ROM and thinking, "Now wait...did I remember to wipe data and cache??"

I am not experienced enough to venture much of an opinion about it, but I only wipe one time.

Hey Guys, I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem with this ROM yet.

I'm running BB v0.5 with Bugless Evolution V8 and Slayhers LV 1.1 Ghz Kernel.

Today I tried to enable my WIFI and it put my phone in an endless Boot Loop where it will boot up to my launcher and then after about 30 seconds freeze and reboot.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or how to fix it?

HOw exactly do i wipe the boot and system partitions , i always wipe data and cache.

If you're using Rom Manager, this is how you do it..

- Reboot into Clockwork Recovery
- After Wiping Data/Cache, go to the PARTITIONS menu
- From this menu, choose Format Boot and then Format System
- Back out the main menu using the Power button
- Choose Reboot and you should now have a very clean and blank slate to install whatever ROM you choose

On the kernel front, I had to switch to Chevys 1.2Ghz ULV kernel because the after using the Slayher 1.2Ghz LV kernel for a few days, it would get very hot (above 140F) and in most cases (almost always when playing a game) it would reboot. The only hiccup I've noticed on the Chevy kernel so far is a lockup here and there that causes a reboot. But temps are much more tolerable (no higher than 120F most times) than they were on the Slayher kernel.

I use the 1.6 1000 but have also used the 1100. I keep the main screen set on 800/250 since I really dont notice a perforance differnce between 800 and 1000. I don't know if they make your battery last any longer than chevy's LV but on the "interactive' setting they are silky smooth. You will still have to set your profiles to get the most out of how you are using the phone.
The interactive setting probably spends more time at the max than ondemand but it is smoother.

I find it helps to set your profiles such as screen off on "conservative" that way it does not ramp up to full power when you really don't need it to. I also use the conservative setting when the battery is getting low as well as ramping down the max power.

Hope this helps.

Who doesn't like fancy doo dads?

I'm with you, I want my phone to function well. I think I made it clear that this ROM did not function well on my Droid. No two Droids are alike and are very fickle. What works well on one Droid won't necessarily work on the other.

I know I'm harsh, but I don't think it's unfairly. I'm a very honest person and will give you my honest opinion. That's why I was asked to be a ROM Rev. RRS was asked for by the users of this site, the powers that be made it happen, and I'm going to do what was asked of me. That is to tell the people the good and the bad. And since it's inception, I've flashed an awful lot of ROMs. That means if one doesn't measure up, I'm gonna let you know.

And if it suffices you, I'm 28, I'm not a fan of whistles, but fancy lights are pretty.

Thank you.

I think it would help if some of the other ROM Revs were more active. There's supposed to be anywhere from 3-5 official reviews for every ROM so people will get the perspective from Revs who'se Droids liked or didn't like the ROM.

As UBRocked has pointed out, I've become the Simon of RRS. Now we just need a Randy and a Paula. Preferably a drunken Paula.

Ok why are you being so harsh? If you would have fully read the review it clearly stated that it didn't work very well on HIS droid. As a rom reviewer that is what he is supposed to base his rating on. Also imo bb is somewhat lacking compared to other roms. Ud8 for example is as functionaly sound as bbv0.5 is but has a lotta "fancy lights and whistles" that are certainly a plus. I think this has to be taken into consideration as a reviewer as well because other roms performances and customizations give the reviewer something to gauge the current rom by.

I'm sticking with v0.5 simply because ud9 is coming out any time now.

Ive always been a fan of BB. This ROM has been very solid throughout. My ONLY complaint would be I always get an error when trying to play videos directly off of the native facebook app (i used to be able to watch them running 2.1) and certain videos off my Gmail app can no longer be played.

Other than that .. this ROM is perfect.

Running w/ Chevy's ULV 1.2ghz kernel.

If anyone has any thoughts about my video play back issue please throw em out there. Ive tried lowering my cpu speed with no luck.

I think that YankeeDudeL's review readily qualified for some harsh feedback.

2/5 for NON-ROM SPECIFIC issues? Give me a break. I made a mental note to completely ignore his feedback from this point on. I didn't have any issues with the market or apps loading onto my phone after install, so clearly any problem along these lines is not specific to this ROM, and should be left out of the review entirely. The fact that he cannot differentiate between useful and useless feedback makes his feedback USELESS on the whole.

I also prefer UD8 for the "bells and whistles" but a ROM that runs perfectly does not deserve a sub-failing grade.
