Can someone tell me why I'm getting a red trianble o0n my Evo? I booted the phone while holding down the power and volume down just to see if I had the hboot on the phone then I tried to go to recovery to back my phone up like I have on my Hero. I have not even hooked the phone to the computer yet and now I getting the red triangle. What do I need to do ? Please help

Did you root the phone? You need a custom recovery. If you haven't rooted the phone, that explains it, if you have, you need to flash either Clockwork or Amon RA. Install ROM Manager from the market. When you open it, at the top, you have the option to flash Clockwork. If you want RA, the option is a little farther down under alternate recovery. Of course, if you aren't even rooted yet, this will do you no good. You must root the phone first. If you haven't, read this guide:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies-extras.html

Once you do that, you can boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup.

Ah, I see you got your phone rooted now. Congratulation :). Which Fresh are you trying to install? Sounds like you've got a pretty old version there. You should flash a ROM based on 3.30 (in your other thread, you said you have hboot 2.02). Or you need to flash a ROM based on 3.70, and update the radios manually. There are instructions on how to do that in the rooting for dummies thread. If you'd like to see what ROMs you can install, you can use this:

See the fourth column for the SW version.

Just my luck, I tried to flash the rom and the radio that cxame with the link and I did a full wipe on data but when I push the restore or power button it goes to the white htc srceen and just stays there? I guess I did something wrong again. I'm trying to restore the phone from my ack and then I guess I will start all over again.

Is this what you tried to flash:

[ROM] 7/15/10 | Fresh Evo 1.0.1 | 1.47 base + apps2sd + pngopt + usual fresh goodies - xda-developers

That's very old. If you tried to flash that radio and ROM, and it was actually successful, I'm not surprised it didn't work. What did it do when you tried to flash the radio? Did it tell you to reboot, then sit at the black screen with a green arrow, then reboot itself? In either case, can you boot into hboot, and tell me what you now see for your radio version (and hboot version just to verify)?

This is the version you need, btw:

[ROM] 12/21/10 | Fresh Evo 3.5.0.1 | [Insert Witty Tagline] | New OTA Base - xda-developers

That will require that you update your radio/wimax/pri/nv to the latest versions.

See the Rooting for Dummies thread for updating radios. You can get it from the Fresh 3.5 link, or you can get a combo update here:

[ Radios ][ 12-17 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers

What is your current radio version? I suppose it doesn't matter if you're going to update it, but I'm curios as to what exactly happened when you tried to flash the old version. Even if it didn't work, flashing an older version of fresh like that wouldn't work because of your radio, etc. versions and the old kernel that fresh used back then.

my radio version is 2.15.00 i think? thats the number under Baseband version. Thanks for holding my hand through this, I had a htc hero that I rooted but there is more to the EVO . So just to make sure i'm on the right path, I'm downloading fresh evo 3501 and I just downloaded the combo for radio's . After that I put them on the sid card wipe the phone, flash the rom then the radio and reboot, it sound simple!

Yes, that's the number. I'm going to assume you mean 2.15.00.09.01. The latest radio is 2.15.00.11.19. Since you have hboot 2.02, and never flashed the latest, you must still have the former. Please verify, first.

So, here's what you'll want to do:

1) Copy the zip for fresh 3.5 and the zip for the combo radio update to the root of your sdcard.
2) Boot into recovery if you aren't already there
3) Wipe data/cache/dalvik
4) Flash the ROM; do not reboot
5) Flash the radio update. It will prompt you to reboot (through recovery option). When you do, the phone will turn back on, and go to a black screen with a green arrow. Don't touch anything. Just let it sit until it reboots itself back into recovery.
6) Once you're back in recovery, reboot, and you should be good to go.

No, if you flashed Fresh 3.5 and the latest combo radio update, then you have everything you need out of the new OTA update. Once a new OTA is released, you'll have to do the same thing - Flash a ROM based on it, then flash the radios. For now, you can flash any 3.70 ROM, and not worry about flashing radios again.

That being said, what exactly is happening when you try to connect?
