Verizon is buying back Eris's for $132

Well, thanks for the feed back guys. I'm going to try the DX and take advantage of the $132 buy back before they pull it. I'm thinking when these new phones come out, the trade in value of the Eris may tank. I already talked to them and have an X on the way with a trade in envelope coming too. I may be a little late with the X but I guess better late than never, right?!

My Two Cents,

Considering most of us got the ERIS for free back in the fall of 09, getting an offer of $132 for it today seems amazing. That is until you see the Full Price they want you to pay for a new one!

Since Most of us are not eligible for an upgrade, I think waiting is the smarter option. Like all things Verizon, Upgrade Eligibility and cost, depends on who you talk to and when. If you speak to 5 people at Verizon, you will get 30 different answers, options and or prices.

Waiting the full Two years, Nov

I expect you'll really like the X, even if you are late to the party. :)
I just moved to the DInc. To Sophie's point it is a phone that's nearly a year old and will soon be EOL. However I have no problem with that, as I believe that ANY smart phone is just a few months away from EOL because they'll just keep coming out with newer/bigger/better/faster ones.
I'm one of those folks that, after rooting, had no problem with the Eris. But this offer combined with a BOGO on the DInc made me come out money ahead. For that reason I couldn't pass up getting a faster phone with a bit bigger screen, even if it is 'old'.

I just found a guy on craigslist that is going to sell me a near new DInc for $160. So, out of pocket (provide he comes through and it is a legit phone) is only $28 for me to upgrade my Eris to DInc. If you can find the right deal, this makes sense to me. I get a phone that I can enjoy until my contract is up (and potentially beyond) while I wait for 4G phones to get more common/cheaper. I don't know that I would last that long with my Eris!

Just run the Verizon RUU .exe then do a factory reset (to get rid of the phone number). You can find it somewhere on the internet, I don't remember where I got it... that was like 6 months ago, haha...

Anyway I've done this on a few that I've sent back so far and it's very fast and easy. Connect Eris to computer via USB, run the .exe, wait, done.

they should cut the two year contract. There is a always a new phone every few months.

You can always choose a one year contract, if you wish (though the cost of the phone is higher), or you could pay full price for the phone and go month-to-month (though they do not give you a break on monthly pricing for not subsidizing the initial purchase price of the phone.) Of course, that said, they *always* push the two year contract and you have to ask about a one year contract.

Like he said. Always get a 1 year contract that way you have upgrades every 10 months.

Anyone else get stiffed on this trade in deal? I started the deal on dec 6th. After a month I called to ask where my gift card was. They said they would send another. Confirmed they had the right address. Weeks later, still no gift card. I'm 45 and have never had anything lost in the mail. I think I've been scammed.

Just curious. I heard something about the Motorola phones not having root access (or whatever you call it) Would it be a better choice to stay with an HTC product that is older or does anyone have an opinion on that? I have been talked in and out of this deal, reading everyone's posts. Now I have that scrolling to the left thing again. Time to switch. I'm not up for upgrade until July and don't know if I can wait that long. BTW Does the Incredible have Adobe Flash? I haven't found and answer on that yet.

It looks like they are getting enough phones sent in...they are now appraising the droid eris for $32 instead of $132. It looks like I am a day too late.

Gazelle.com will give you $86 if the condition is like-new and you have the original charger and cables. At least it's not a lame Verizon gift card. And, based on my informal look at sold Erises on eBay, that seems like it's a fair market price.

Well, I'm trading mine in and getting an iPhone. The eris was just too slow, too much work, and too hard to get everything working smoothly. I am so turned off of android that I won't ever look at another android phone ( at least not in the next few years)

Anyway, I'm glad I ordered the trade in envelope last week. Looks like I have just under 30 days to send it in for $132
