Swype questions

Unfortunately, Swype isn't available as a standard app. If it didn't come installed on your phone by the manufacturer (just as it didn't with the Shift), then the only way you can install it is to go to the Swype.com website, enroll in their Beta testing program, and then install the Beta version. You have to register for the program on their site, get an e-mail activating your account, and then follow the link in that e-mail back to the Swype site and request the Beta download. They'll then send you another e-mail with the download link, and you have to click on that link in that e-mail on your phone (the rest of this can be done either on your phone or on your computer). That link then leads you back to the site to install two programs, the Beta Installer program and then the Beta version of Swype. The installer autodetects the appropriate version for your phone, and installs it (and pretty much walks you through the process of installing and activating).

I installed it a few days ago on my Shift, and it's working great. It even improves how the voice recognition function works. Before Swype I couldn't edit what I dictated until I either closed and reopend the onscreen keyboard or touched the voice recognition button again (until I did one of those things, the entire dictated text was "locked" in a green box, and I couldn't navigate around in it or make edits). Anyway, with Swype I'm able to directly edit the dictated text immediately.
