Help New Firmware

i know this might sound dumb but there is no update button on my kies air screen so how do i update my phone?

I've linked it to the PC and all i have is the kies air menu with all my data and photos etc but no tab for upgrade

as mentioned previously you cant upgrade firmware via kies air, you have to have the usb cable or wait for an over the air upgrade.

I've switched to KE7 and I can safely safe my battery life is significantly improved. My phone just died after 1 day, 10 hours and 18 minutes. It died sending me a screen capture proving battery life, which I'll try and attach.

yeah, my battery life improved with KE7 too. There's no way I'll ever get 34 hours out of it though lol, I am quite a phone abuser. Normal use, 14-15 hours for me. If I was going away for a weekend and forgot the charger though, I could probably squeeze out 2 days out of it, would have to restrict myself from games and youtube and such of course...

I agree with the guy above! Confusing as i moved over from iPhone aswel, That updating was very easy! Im with optus in Australia so i got no idea when that update will be available...

I am in Oz as well, also came from iphone 4, I use prepaid with Telstra and I used this
[ROM + Guide]Official i9100 KDD/KE1/KE2/KE7 download for Odin Flash and Root Guide. - xda-developers
to update my phone.
Download the Generic XEU XWKE7, and read the instructions on updating with Odin.
This will get rid of all your Optus bloatware.
Hope this helps

Not 100% sure about rooting the device - can anyone convince me?

better battery
options and features you wouldnt normally have access to
more homescreens
the ability to move your apps to your sd card...

plus if you put a custom rom on your phone you get even more...

deodexed
zipaligned
different themes
Better optimised apk's, framework for more speed and free memory.

Everyone and anyone! waiting for KE7 will take forever! i was on KE2 and getting no love from kies( no update) so as i usually do with every android phone ive had. i rooted it (painless) then i hit up odin as someone said and flashed the new firmware..... simple!!! :D :D.

as someone said god knows why they dont have an update process like iphones. sooo simple that way, this just causes confusing and a mild form of panic lol xD.

What is the reason for Samsung not releasing the firmware for everyone at the same time? Im having problems with the battery and Kies is not informing me about a new update. This is getting beyond annoying...

Samsung makes the release available to all, but the individual carriers make the decision when or if to release it. If you have an unbranded phone, the release is available the day Samsung posts it.

As in if I bought the phone through vodafone or some other company? I bought the phone from an electronics store and just added in my sim card so I don't think its branded...Yet, no update.

I've been using this phone for 5 hours while browsing the net and I have about 40% left...Im starting to think that I have a faulty piece.

If it does not have carrier branding (as mine) then the update not showing for you could only be related to the country you reside in. I know that all unbranded UK and USA phones saw all of the updates.
