Droid 3 Running Tab On Rumors

A lot of people over at droidforums.net are blasting the specs on this phone now that we have some "official" info on it. They are saying the 4" screen and 512mb of RAM (on top of no LTE) make this phone already behind the times. I don't have time to compare phones or keep up with the latest stuff, so does anyone know if these critics have credible complaints about this phone?
It has the same 4" qHD screen the Atrix has, so you can go look at one of those if you want an idea of the screen. Some people really hate it, other people think it looks crisp and great.

The dual-core OMAP4 processor is among the current state of the art. 512MB RAM is plenty for today's apps. Maybe in 6-8 months there will be quad-core processors and some apps (probably games) that run better with 768MB or 1024MB RAM. But for the apps and games in use today, it's equipped well enough IMO.

Personally I am willing to sacrifice a lot to get that 5-row QWERTY. It's true that if you don't care about a physical keyboard there are / will be other phones with bigger specs.

I keep hearing mixed reviews on the qHD screens. Makes me wonder if I want to see what else comes out with a keyboard.

It's not the qHD aspect of the screen that some people have issues with, it's the why in which it's produced. But the fact of the matter is that most people, in regular day to day use, have no problems with a pentile screen. Some people do, and for them it can be a legitimate issue, but most people don't. Sure if you put it right up to your eye or under a microscope you'll see pixels, but you'll see imperfections in any screen if you do that. It's just one of those things that you have to see for yourself in person to decide about.

Except games. Most of my friends have told me their colleges have blocked the ports that Xbox Live, PSN, and Netflix use... Which sucks. But, I wouldn't tether for that either, shitty speeds for that as well.

I only use tethering at school, and on the rare occasion that our internet at home goes out during storms and I want to check the weather on my laptop.

Yeah idk my roommate could get to psn and xbox live through the school internet who knows though thats why you got to live off campus and get your own internet so you can do w.e you like lol.

So that means if you want a droid 3 you will have to be on a tiered data plan?

Verizon making the move to tiered data on July 7th? | PhoneDog

If you get it at the reduced price with a new contract price, it looks like you will be. I plan on picking one up at full retail to activate on my current plan with unlimited data. Then I'll sell my current phone to help offset the cost.

EDIT: Looks like current Verizon customers with a smartphone and unlimited data might be grandfathered in when upgrading: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/21/current-verizon-customers-wont-be-affected-by-tiered-data-only-new-customers-and-lines/

my droid1 needs a front facing camera, a bigger and better screen, faster processor, bigger keyboard, faster internet, more ram and a better battery. it would be funny if they sold it as the mildstone3 in the us on a different carrier. teach verizon for picking up iphone.

That would hurt moto more than verizon. I mean verizon doesnt need moto. Does moto have any 4g phone yet? Didnt think so. Not to mention verizon brought moto back from the dead with the original droid.

droid life is reporting some accessories are showing up on an aftermarket site. maybe tomorrow or next thursday is possible.

And Droid Life is still saying that July 7th is the possible launch date. Could it be sooner? I suppose, but tomorrow isn't likely at all. The Droid X2 had a few days official notice before release and one would think the Droid 3 will be similar. I'd love a release next week, but I'm still banking on the 7th.

kellex posted he is doubting the 7th date a little since tiered is coming that day, they really wouldnt launch a phone the same day as that hysteria.

it could have a quiet launch tomorrow too as a small possibility, if it is the 7th im buying a t bolt then returning it for the D3 the 7th and keeping unlimited data.

Yeah, but after posting that he was doubting the 7th, he backtracked and posted in the link above (which is from today) that it might be the 7th.

If there was going to be a quiet launch tomorrow, we would have at least heard something about it. There's no way that stock would arrive in warehouses for online sales or in any stores without anyone leaking something out.

And if you're already on Verizon with a smartphone that has unlimited data, you don't have to worry about locking in a new contract before tiered pricing goes into effect. Your unlimited data will be grandfathered in - Verizon Shares Tiered Data Pricing During Employee Training, Confirms Everything We Already Told You - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog. No need to buy the Thunderbolt then return it for the Droid 3. You can just wait for the Droid 3 if you currently have a plan with unlimited data on a smartphone.
