Help Swype on Evo 4G, on Evo 3D? [yes]

LOL, you got to use it for a few days to really see the usefulness of it. The first few days it took a little getting use to but after that it just keeps getting better and better but of course this is all my opinion. Also, I used swype quite a bit as well as the stock keyboard and I won't be going back.

+ 1. I've used several kb's and this one is by far the best :)

This comes directly from the Swype Beta Site (FAQ section):

"This beta version will expire after 4 months as we will provide periodic updated versions that will include new features and functionality."

That's where I got the 4 months, I'm waiting to sign up for the beta until after I get my 3D, so I can't confirm if this means it stops working and truly expires after 4 months.

Thanks for the info about the forum having problems with other posts and illegal downloads, I wasn't aware of that and it makes perfect sense. I just thought it was in response to the posts on this thread being interpreted as suggesting illegal behavior.

They'll always release a new version before the old one expires. I've been using the swype beta since last summer on phone and never had an issue where it would come up expired and became unusable. I feel it's better to do it this way than a phone come with swype because the only way to update a version of swype on a phone with it preinstalled is to wait for the manufacturer to push an update. With the swype beta you get updates sooner.

And to my point... Swype just released version 3.0 to the beta users about an hour ago. On a phone that doesn't have Swype pre-installed you can start using it right now.

Copy/paste from the CNET review, which is posted under the Evo 3d reviews:

The smartphone offers both Swype and HTC's virtual keyboard for text entry.

I wonder if they are just confused? I know HTC's keyboard lets you input with a "sype like" finger slide. Maybe they think the motion itself is swype and don't realize there is actually a keyboard called swype?

I am sure they are not that stupid, if it is true they should not be doing a review. I am sure if they mention swype they know what the hell it actually is.

Has any other reviewer mentioned it? If swype is on there, it would be a pretty nice surprise after HTC said it wouldn't be.

I've seen a bunch of videos showing the Sensation keyboard. It's definitely the HTC keyboard but it also has the ability to "swype" instead of type. So if they changed to swype on the Evo 3D at the last minute that would be a pretty nice surprise.

Yeah, someone doing a review needs to confirm this one and for all.

I know for sure HTC's new keyboard can be used like swype, with a swype like motion. And I know for sure HTC said they wouldn't be putting swype on any future devices because they had made their own keyboard with similar functionality.

Now some people are syaing this device has swype on it. And others are saying it doesn't. Very confusing.

Very true. I'd like final confirmation whether the actual "Swype" app keyboard comes preloaded, or whether it is just HTC's "swype-like" keyboard.

Some reviews say it has Swype, others make no mention of Swype but say it has a swype-style keyboard.

Would be nice to know which of the 2 is true!

That's cool, hopefully the production model will have it also. Guess we'll find out for sure later this week!

So trace is HTC's own keyboard not the new GB keyboard is that right? I don't remember now what I had read. So when you trace or swype whatever this has different colors to choose from how many and what are they? Guess I'll find out tomorrow. LOL! I can't wait till tomorrow.

Edit: Oh does it have a mic on it so you can speak?

I am loving the Stock HTC EVO 3D keyboard. To me it's much better than Swype.
I love the fact you can change the colors of the trace.

I haven't figured out how to turn on HTC Trace, but from what I understand it works exactly like Swype. The new HTC keyboard works a lot like the GB keyboard that the Nexus S has. It's just a different color but it works very similarly.

Yes, it has speech-to-text and this is probably my new favorite feature. It's really useful when you need to send a longer message. It's really accurate too. It almost always gets the word you said right, even when it's words you wouldn't think it would know.

So it has regular GB, Swype and Trace all three? I use Flex T 9 now so I may just stick to it but if trace works well and has a mic then I'll try it. I wish it was tomorrow already.
