google music will not install...is it because im rooted?

Yes, Google Music can't be installed on rooted phones (yet). According to Google rooting can compromise security, it would be easier to skip DRM and copy the music, it's most probably Google admission to music copyright holders. I've found few posts about Google Music beta working on rooted phones on xda-developers.com, but it looks like new versions doesn't work anymore.

Hmmm.... I'm rooted, got my invite today from Google, went to the market and installed Google Music, actually, installed it when it first came out, but then uninstalled it... but today's install worked fine... even opened the Music app and it even popped up a message saying the my phone/account is now linked to Google Music Beta...

Really, are you sure? Not saying you're wrong, but the implication of that would be no music Google Music for developers. I guess if people at XDA had trouble with it, then you might be right though... but I'm surprised there wasn't widespread backlash at Google Music for all the rooted HTC and Samsung users; I would guess most of the people using Google Music at this point are rooted. I'll take a look

But for whatever it's worth, I have installed Google Music over ten times, mostly when rooted, on all kinds of builds, including, most recently, with the bootloader unlocked, and I never had any problem installing the app from the Market or streaming my music.

To the OP: did you set up Google Music on your PC? I downloaded the music client thing and ran that, and linked it to my Google account, before trying to use the app... dont know why it would matter but perhaps that may help?
