Gingerbread roll out starting

You know, Rlad78, I just never got Vlingo to work. Maybe it's me, but it just seems very clunky. All I want is what I had on my 8 year old Razor- touch the button on my bluetooth earpiece, say, "call home", and have it dial the call. If I wanted to, I could say, "digit dial 404-555-1212" and it would call that number (That was especially good for numbers not named in my contacts or just a one time call.) My phone never left its case on my belt. I really don't want another program running in the background. Remember our phones have been referred to as "Battery Whores". I don't think that it is too nuch to ask to have 8-10 year old technology incorporated into a 1 year old phone. (If this is a big problem, could someone please give a layman's simple explanation of it? I'm sure that I'm not the only person curious about why this is happening.)
Thanks.
Matt

Not getting my hopes up high for 2.3. Whenever it comes out it comes out. I just got a refurbished phone(third captivate) that I have to wiggle the headset jack with in order to hear voice come out the ear speaker. Tempted to keep it cause the gps fully works and no lag. It's sad this phone had so many problems since day one.

2.3 isn't as exciting... 2.2 was a bigger deal due to how many apps require it.

Let's see if they fix the charging bug (aka "charge of death") affecting a ton of the Captivate's running custom hacked 2.3 ROMs. It's a real pisser, one that is probably the biggest downsides of 2.3 right now and an issue that unfortunately has persisted a long time with no resolution. :(

I actually really like 2.3 (but I'm also using CM7, which is a beast unto itself). Between the detail battery breakdown and that the market will automatically install apps you had previously installed...it's been a very smooth experience. There's some battery life issues on CM7, but that's more due to them not having access to some Samsung specific radio stuff that would enable the devs to make better/finer tweaks. My opinion (take it with a grain of salt!) is that the official Gingerbread build will make for really nice battery life.

Ya. A custom ROM based on the leaked Captivate 2.3 stuff, in theory, should have good battery life. If it doesn't, that's not a ROM worth using, IMO.

Try Mosaic V, battery is ridiculous even when playing Robotek HD for two hours throughout the day. Not to mention the theme app and EDT tweaks for the notification bar to change clock color and battery displays, by far Team Phoenix out did themselves on this rom.
BUG, one bootloop after wiping caches....who knows why, but other than that this puppy is sweeeet.

Same here, I'm on Contunuum v6.1, couldn't be happier. I have less than perfect batter life, but it's a life free from AT&T BS bloatware, and useless Samsung apps!

I liked Continuum, couple of real nice themes too. BTW there aint NO bloat in Mosaic, this puppy is clean and even the stock theme is beautiful, Team Phoenix has yet to let me down with any rom they have put out. IMO CM7 is a crapshoot, you never know what your gonna get....maybe a brick, maybe eggnog, not enough love goes into that thing. Auto compiled?

I've had one soft brick in the time (2 months) I've been on CM7, and that was entirely of my own doing (tried to change a font I shouldn't have). Getting back to a functional ROM was a simple as getting back into download mode via ADB and reflashing to any of the nightlies available on the card.

Really, if you're capable of following simple instructions, you shouldn't encounter any issues flashing CM7. To say "not enough love" goes into it is just ignorance - things are manually getting tweaked on a daily basis - feedback from the community is always taken into account - if that's "not enough love" than I don't know what else you could possibly want.

I am not slamming your ROM, I have flashed every damn rom on XDA, CM7 is for people who like to flash there phone every couple of days, I used to be that guy, I am looking for daily drivers now I just want to theme them out and port all the best components from every ROM, CM7 just didn't fit ME that well, Phoenix roms are set up to customize, I have put a hundred fonts in my phone never had a problem, and I have no need to use adb I just mod the files right on my phone or use Clockwork and flash in anything I want, I can change kernels and overclock with NO effort or even the need to turn on my PC. CM7 is a nice rom but Phoenix devs put a buttload of time in every release, that's love.
