Root Wiping using Clockwork recovery?

Was just about to wipe and install a custom ROM for the first time. Booted into clockwork recovery and selected wipe/factory reset and was presented with a screen off a list of "No"s with one "yes - delete all user data" do I just select that and then press the track ball ?
Also do I need to wipe cache partition in the same way?
Do I also need to wipe the dvlk cache, going to install MIUI XJ ROM.

Yeh select "yes - delete all user data"
then wipe cache and dalvik, I always wipe 2 or 3 times now between ROMS as I have a problem with DeFRost 6.1 ages ago because I hadn't wiped properly!

You don't need to wipe dalvik-cache as its in /data, that you are already wiping.

i've recently rooted with unrevoked, im trying to install a rom, but i can't get back onto the clockwork recovery screen, it only takes me back to the hboot screen by holding power+volume down (this is the method i've been using throughout rooting the phone, and the only one i know of), any ideas on how to get back to the clockwork recovery screen please?

When in hboot, use the volume down key to highlight the word "recovery", then press power to select.

sorry i know this ain;t meant to be here, but i'm just curious.. what is s-on or s-off in short? i know its something to do with security, but is it beneficial to have it off>? thanks in advance

S-On is the default. It means you don't have write access to the nand flash when android is running, so e.g. you can't just uninstall system apps.

S-Off means this has been bypassed (not actually removed on a GSM handset, just ignored, but the effect is the same). This allows you write access to memory you wouldn't otherwise be able to access (e.g. I can just use Titanium Backup to uninstall system apps that I don't want - provided I know which ones are safe to uninstall). The big attraction for many of us is that you can change the partitioning of the internal storage. The ROM I'm running is a lot smaller than the stock ROM, so I have reduced the size of the /system partition (the bit of memory the ROM lives in) to make a larger /data partition (the internal storage used for data and user apps).

Of course, like any extra freedom, it provides new ways of messing the phone up if misused. Personally I'd recommend doing the research and deciding whether you need it. There's no rush - I was rooted for several months before I did it. Read SUroot's root memory guide (linked with the other guides and FAQs) to find out more about it.

Another question about wiping, I have actived a2sd+ and moved the dvlk cache onto my EXT3 partition. If i decide to swap ROMs do I need to wipe the data on that partition, and if so how?
