Root [ROM] - [MikRoms] - [11/23/2011] - MikG v2.61 - Re-Engineered GB Sense 2.1 + 3.0

Yep! I had a "what the hell, give it a try" moment around 4pm and that didn't fix my problem.

I was just over to XDA and aamikam's Mik thread and there appears to be some knowledge of the camera issue. It is suggested that the camera app might not like an undervolted kernal:

[ROM] - [MikRoms] - [9/27/2011] - MikG v2.55 - Re-Engineered GB Sense 2.1 + 3.0 - Page 1298 - xda-developers

I'm just wondering why EVERYONE isn't having the camera problem if that is the case?? Or perhaps the app is a bit fickle...

Anyway, I haven't seen a resolution of this issue at XDA but am awaiting, hopefully, a reply to my post over there. In the meantime, can anyone recommend a kernal that WILL (or might) fix the camera undervolted kernal issue?? I guess in reading the posts at XDA that that means either a "stock" kernal or a "not-so-undervolted" one??

My camera works without issue.. curious, what hardware version do you have? It seems on xda that folks with hardware v0001 & v0002 were the only ones having this issue (My Evo is v0004).

Have you posted this in the 2.55 Bug Report over at themikmik? It probably has a better chance of being addressed quickly over there than at xda.

Hey JSD, thanks VERY MUCH for the reply and suggestion. Yeah, it appears that there might be some hardware issue at work here. I'm on v0002 and two people at XDA on 0003 and 0004 don't seem to have problems :(

I posted my camera issue at XDA and someone over there asked some follow up questions including my hardware version. Perhaps there's a fix or something. If you care to follow the post, here's the link:

I'll also head over to the mikmik forum bug report link you gave me...good idea, hadn't thought about that...thanks!!

a) could very well be, but I usually do superwipe like 3x and then cache, d-cache and data another 2-3x, along with sd ext now too that I have partitioned.

b) I didn't even know I could do that, just thought it restored my contacts and stuff

I'll be more than happy to reflash it, but, You didn't see the funny edges around stuff like the 4g toggle, wi-fi toggle widget? maybe MY eyes are the ones that are hosed. Might nan back to it tomorrow and post screen shots.

Ok, here I am back on 2.55. Posting this screenshot so you guys can see what I am talking about.

The edges of the widgets look a little ragged and that 'thing' at the bottom that has app drawer, phone and personalize on it is different from what i am used to.

Did I do something to make it look like that or is it the same on your phone too?

Edit: I grabbed this rom as soon as i heard about it on here, wonder if I got a work in progress download or something? I still have the rom on the phone, going to try flashing it again over my present install and see if it makes a difference. :)

Edit 2: No help, no change, First time I actually have flashed over a running setup with same rom. that does work fine. Just didn't change anything in this case.

ROM - MikG v2.55
KERNEL - SoL (Speed of Light) v1.0

Hiya...was wondering if you might be able to tell me what hardware version your EVO is and if you are having any camera issues with the kernal you are using?? As you might have read in this thread, my hardware v0002 EVO is having camera app issues and since I can't change the hardware, I was hoping to do so with a new kernal?

If you have v0003 or v0004 you might not have any camera app issues so I was wondering how you like your SoL kernal in general...

THANKS!!

Hello!!

So, my research has found that there are some issue with MikG and the camera app on EVOs with hardware v0001 or v0002 (v0003 and v0004 seem to work just fine). I have v0002 and the camera app isn't working....shutter won't release, cannot activate auto-focus with a touch of the screen, zoom slider will not zoom camera and, for me at least, launching the camera app will cause the CPU to peg at 100% and run the battery down in no time (only stopped with a reboot).

There is some suggestion that a different kernal will help this situation....

SO, I'm looking for any EVO owners with v0002 hardware running a kernal that allows the camera app to function!! I believe the criterion for the kernal is that is it NOT undervolted (apparently, the camera app does NOT like undervolted kernals).

Any kernal suggestions?? THANKS!!

Is this camera issue new to 2.55 or did 2.54 have it also? I was about to run 2.55 but now wondering if i should go back to 2.44.

I do NOT want to scare anyone else with the information that I have found. I did not come up with this theory by myself...I looked at posts and suggestions here, in the XDA forums and themikmik forums as well.

I know of TWO people (one my father in law) who has a v0002 hardware phone like me (bought at same store on same day) and was running 2.53 and upgraded to 2.55 and has NO PROBLEMS. I know of another person who just posted at themikmik forums running 2.53 and has NO PROBLEMS with his camera.

INTERESTINGLY, I first flashed v2.5 last week then patched up to 2.51 and 2.52 (and then 2.55 eventually) and I DO have a problem. My father in law...and the other person who just posted in themikmik forums is running 2.53...they never installed v2.5 or the patches. Hmmmm....interesting....I think I'm going to wipe and install 2.53...wish me luck!!

So with regard to your question/fear about 2.55 I would not be concerned. It is NOT a universal problem...just that some people are reporting what I'm reporting and, from what I have read, has NOTHING to do with the current v2.55.

Sorry for the fear/concern with my posts...:(

Thanks...got the names. I think, though, if you see my post from a few minutes ago, perhaps my issue is with MikG versions 2.5 to 2.52. I know TWO people who skipped those versions and are using either 2.53 or 2.55 with NO camera problems and EVO hardware v0002 so think I might start fresh with 2.53 and go from there...

I just flashed mik 2.53 last night and it seems super fast compared to the cm7 ROM I had flashed. Would it be worth it to flash the 2.55 or should I just stay on this one right now. Also would I be able to flash it without having to redo everything? I haven't noticed the camera problem everyone is talking about either.

Sorry about that...PLEASE don't be too concerned about the camera issue. The "everyone" you are referring to seems to be only me at the moment. Others are stable.

Question though for you...do you know what hardware version you are running with your phone blanco?? Go to Home....Menu....Settings....About Phone....Hardware...and, if you could, let me know what you said. It appears that there have been NO PROBLEMS with hardware v0003 or v0004 and the camera:)

I mentioned I know two people running the freedom kernal with a v0002 EVO so I think I'm going to try that kernal. I went over to the Freedom Kernal page to look around [Kernel][Sense][HDMwIn]Evo 4g Freedom-v0.9 Kernel GB MR 2.6.35.10 - xda-developers and I was wondering what the differences are between not only the Freedom/Less/More/Aggressive kernals but also the Godmode/Nightly/Universal options??

The forum's ROMs and Kernals page http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html has a direct link to Aggressive Freedom but I'm not sure if that is what I want/need??

There were suggestions that I want to AVOID an "undervolted" kernal to avoid my camera app problems so I don't know what Freedom kernal version (12 different combinations/permutations) to use...??

Also, once I flash a new kernal, how do I go back to the original MikG kernal? I looked at the XDA MikG downloads page and did not see a link to only the kernal. Do I flash the entire ROM again or is there a kernal flash for MikG??

I also DID read your Kernals for Dummies sticky http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/389360-kernels-dummies.html but couldn't figure out a correlation between the terms you used and the labels for the Freedom kernals

THANK YOU!!

can i just flash the rom on after wipign like dalvik n cache so I dont lose everything

I'm going to suggest that you'll be FINE just wiping cache and dalvik and then flashing 2.55 on top of what you have. Just make a nandroid backup beforehand just in case.

The conservative approach is, obviously, to wipe everything and then flash but I HEAR YA with regard to losing settings. The ROM developer himself when posting information about the 2.55 release said that he wiped and flashed but that we should be able to just wipe cache and dalvik and flash 2.55.

Others here might have other suggestions but the above is from the developer's own post.
