Root Is there just a plain one click root?

I have the epic 4g touch, and I really want to play some of the games that are available only for Tegra based devices. I want to use chainfire3d, however I need a root. Every root I seen involves installing custom roms, no one click roots like there were for the original galaxy s. Does anybody know of any that I can install? I'm not looking to flash custom roms or kernals, as the phone runs perfectly. I just want to get superuser permission so I can run chainfire3d

Take a look here. [ACS][Odin]Stock EG30 Odexed with Root 3.0/Busybox 1.18.4

It's not exactly the one click as we had on the HTC series like unrevoked but just as simple and painless and will install the stock ROM with no changes whatsoever to your phone. You do not have to wipe and this process will not remove any apps or settings you have. The phone will act and look the same except you'll have root.

As always, rooting is at your risk but I have used this method on several phones and they all rooted without any problems during or after the process.

Can anyone else vouch for this process for the Epic 4G? I'm interested in keeping everything stock, but would just like root access for things like Titanium backup.

Thanks.

Did you not understand from my post above that this method does exactly what you are asking or do you just not trust my information?

Dig a little deeper in the root only threads and you will see where others have used this with exactly the same results as I have reported.

Exactly, if you're windows based, it's pretty easy, 15 minutes tops and that's with downloading the needed files and reading what to do.

I understood your previous post perfectly. I just like more than one person to confirm that something has worked. I have since looked through the forums and found the original post about this root method.

I did this also, and it worked perfectly.

It doesn't give you CWM recovery though so you can't flash ROMs or anything. It does work to give you root access for root only apps though (like screen shot apps, root explorer, AdFree, etc)

Yes it does. Just choose option C after rooting, and you get the stock kernel with CWM installed. I've been flashing between this and Syndicated Ice while I wait for ICS to become stable.

I ended up using Odin to change my kernel and ROM anyways, so now I have CWM. But, thanks for the info for anyone else who uses this method.

I'm also just playing around with some ROMs waiting on a stable ICS ROM, hopefully CM9!

Just followed this guide and it works perfectly. The only snag I had was with the cord, and thanks to reading this board I knew the stock cord rarely seems to sync. So I had a after market one, plugged it in, and it synced instantly.

Works perfectly.

Thanks !

I had no idea about the cord, hadn't read anything about that. I haven't even opened the one that came with the phone since I have so many laying around the house already. I think the one I used was the one that came with my nexus s.

Thanks so much, rooted perfect, verified with a root checker. Super user was installed, I just updated it.

Only snag is - as stated above they said it does not install CWM. I did not notice if it did or not, haven't restarted it because I don't know how to get in it anyway (coming from a Hero with hardware buttons!)
Anyway - for now all I wanted was root for wifi hotspot and setcpu. Thanks guys, will donate to the cause next week when I get paid!

Any suggestions on how to check/install CWM?

I ended up using Odin and flashing my phone that way with a new ROM that included CWM. This is the guide I used: [GUIDE] Using ODIN to flash your Epic 4G Touch (windows only) - xda-developers

One thing to keep in mind is that on a lot of ROMs GPS quits working, there is a quick fix though that works great!
