ok so you have the initial gingerbread ota. there have been two others after the one you have. all you really need to do is flash a 4.53.651.1 rom to get updated. there is a stock version or there are a bunch of 4.53 roms that have the bloatware removed. just go to the rom/kernel sticky if this forum to go and get them. or you can try some of the other roms out there. try mikg2.55 (just came out).it is a very good rom and very fast and stable. it has sense 2.1 and sense 3.0.

Again, thank you thank you! :D Finally figured out how to update to 4.53.651.1. Every time I do this I have to RE-learn how to apply, mostly 'cause I always come back to the first page here to get a refresher and get confused.

Can someone update the FAQ to "better" explain how to flash the OTA? I swear it used to be IN the OTA section, but now I can't see it. Someone who can't connect the dots well (like myself) may be confused between OTA, Radio, Kernel, etc updating.

Also, the guide says that ClockworkMod 3.0.0.x does not support Edify. I'm not sure what that means since it's not explained right there, but I have 3.0.0.5 and it seems to be working. Normal or no?

Last question for a bit, promise!
I'm getting a new SD card. I have made a copy of my current SD on my PC. When I install new SD card, do I just transfer PC folder into it, then hope it works? It'll all stay rooted, right?

The whole pcimage etc thing. I know of course that you name it that and tell it to update(?) to get it to isntall. But doesnt selecting zip to run do the same thing.

I mean a rom is installed by selecting the zip.

the PC36IMG is a file that the hboot is programmed to scan for. it is used in a variety of different applications. it is used for switching recoveries. some radio files are compiled to be used as such. also there is the sprint lover's all in one rom where you use the PC36IMG to install the rom and it will update your radio, pri, nvi and wimax as well. it can also be used to swicth your splash screen(the htc white screen before the boot animation). and also it can be used to install the stock rom and stock recovery, if you want to unroot your phone.

so i'm not sure what you are referring to or what you are trying to do. can you be more specific?

Hey this method still works right? I just updated my phone to 2.3 and was wondering if I can use this method to root my phone or if i have to use the gingerbread method in the other sticky

ok so the easiest way to know is to figure out what hboot you have. so power off (you may need to uncheck fastboot, select settings/apps/uncheck fastboot). this will take you to the hboot (bootloader) and at the top will say what hboot you have.

if it is hboot 2.10 or less then use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

if you have hboot 2.15 or 2.16 then use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

ok so I went with the new root method without looking at the hboot. I was trying to flash the Synergy ROM but doesnt work. didnt make a nandroid backup either(was in a rush and I've flashed a lot of other ROMs). So I'm checking my H-Boot now and it's 6.16.1002. I don't know how to take this lol I'm trying to run the RUU right now but doesn't seem to be catching. I flashedf the amonRA recovery too. I'm trying to flash the pc36img for the stock just to get it back to normal.

ok so do you have s-off? can you boot your phone? and can you get to recovery?

if you have s-off and you have a custom recovery then you are pretty much rooted. you just need to flash the su file or flash a rom at this point. just go to the guide under flashing for directions. you can get any rom you like in the rom/kernel sticky. try mikg2.59 way better then stock plus it has all of the bloatware removed. plus ot has sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 added.

I had s-off and now it's back to s-on so I gotta reroot it but I gotta run the RUU first. I can't access the phone due to the boot screen replaying over and over again. The PC36IMG isn't updating at all. It reads but doesn't ask to be updated or not.

Update:
I got the RUU working and i'll being rerooting it tomorrow. I'm too tired tonight for any more rooting. my H-Boot is still 6.1 or whatever, not 2.10 or 2.15. It was 2.10 before from what I remembered.

Thanks!
Page one says "For those of you who have Gingerbread 2.3.3 on your phone stop now. this guide is for those who have Froyo 2.2 on their phone still."

In my About Phone I have 2.3.3, but my hBoot is 2.10.01 or something (I'm already rooted, S-Off). So...should I still be referring to this guide?

I'm concerned because for the past few months, my battery goes from full to dead after merely unplugging the phone (have tried different batteries), and the camera either goes blank screen or completely crashes the phone 99% of the time I use it.

that is for people who have accepted or updated their phones. for rooted people it is different. the software version (froyo to gingerbread) will change when you flash a rom but the hboot will stay the same. for unrooted phones who update their phone will get their software version updated and their hboot will also change.

so as long as you have s-off and a custom recovery all you would have to do is flash a rom. try mikg2.60. new version just came out. it is by far the best and stable rom out there. it is very stock but it has sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 built in. try it out. you can get it in the rom/kernel sticky.

So I need to unroot and restore my Evo to stock condition. From the original post, it tells me to download the file corresponding to which version of HBoot I have. Mine, however, is not listed (HBoot-0.76). Can I use one of the ones listed, and will this cause me any issues at all? I just want to get this unrooted as easily as possible so I can sell it. Thanks!

try the .97 ruu. i believe it is the next version before .76 so your phone will just think that it is getting an update.
