Help Kies not downloading ics 4.0!

If you haven't yet, try uninstalling Kies and any Samsung drivers. Download Kies again and reinstall. Start Kies, check for any Kies updates. Plug in your phone and see if it works.

I've seen people have all kinds of problems with Kies today but haven't seen this one before.

I've tried this 5 times already and it still doesn't work! >:O God I hate Kies......

Maybe you can get it to work manually through the emergency firmware option.

Start Kies and go to Tools> Firmware upgrade and initialization. Enter the device S/N (found on the label below the battery), the Model name (SGH-T989), then select OK. You go through a few screens stating what is going to happen and asking if you want to proceed. Once you select OK, the next screen will be to download firmware upgrade components.

After this finishes it takes you get to the next screen stating that it is for Firmware emergency recovery. Now, follow the steps provided to proceed with the emergency recovery. This will tell you how to switch the phone to recovery mode.

Another option besides Kies is to use Odin to install the stock firmware.

Nothing happens when I click on firmware upgrade and initialization either... How do you use Odin? Thanks

Download the ICS stock file from one of the links in this post.

Unzip (extract) it somewhere. Make sure on your phone USB Debugging is checked in settings>applications>development.

If you don't have Odin, get it here. Extract it in a folder somewhere. I made a folder called Galaxy S2 to put all this stuff in.

Now use Odin as in this tutorial except you don't need all the steps.

1 - Launch Odin but do NOT connect the phone yet. Plug your USB cable to your computer but not your phone yet.

2 - Power off your phone. Then hold down both volume buttons and plug in the USB cable. Press the volume up button when you see this menu.

You will then go to the download screen.

3 - Wait for the Com port in Odin to turn yellow. You do not need to check anything that isn't already. Just be sure that Re-Partition is NOT checked. It shouldn't be.

4 - Select PDA in Odin and browse to the file you downloaded and select it. Now press Start and Odin will flash the stock rom. When it is finished you will see a green PASS in the top section. It took me about 6 or 7 minutes.

5 - Odin should reboot your phone. You should now be in the stock ICS ROM.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Last question, is Odin safe to use? Like is it considered "rooting", I want to get the OEM ICS 4.0 (stability issues) Thanks :D

I have never had a problem with Odin. Just follow those steps and be sure Re-Partition is not checked. Some people have checked it anyway even though every tutorial you see like this says not to and they bricked their phone.

No, this isn't rooting although you use a similar procedure with Odin to root.
