[Verizon] [ROM]JDX (formerly Jelly Belly) AOSP+ - v15 (7/28)

2.5 seems to be up and working now, though I had some odd problems with TiBu. While restoring, twice, I had to force close TiBu because it was stuck on an app, in one case overnight (8+ hours). Restart the restore and everything seems fine now. Never seen this on ICS, but I've seen it a few times now on JB. I was hoping the new TiBu update would have fixed these problems...

Wow, that was really fast! Im gonna wait for the AOSP one though... Reading through the RW thread, not willing to make those sacrifices to signal strength, etc.

Hi Samuel -

The ROM has nothing to do with the radios. My signal strength right now, in house, is -90 dbm. That's perfectly fine for me, same as it's always been and I have yet to drop a call.

So there are people with radio issues. I would suspect that they had the same issues on Ice Cream, and just hoped that Jelly Bean would fix them. Until new radio firmware comes out, though, it won't. It's just the Android operating system and has nothing to do with reception.

So don't let that hold ya back - MAKE BACKUPS and dive on in :D

Good Morning Jelly Beaners!

Hey JBDan, I haven't really messed with kernels since my Droid days. What is the tangible difference between the stock linaro kernel and Franco? I mean, this thing screams already and it's buttery smooth. Can you really tell that much?

Kernels can impart some speed, but the biggest difference I notice about good kernels is the improvement in battery life.

LeanKernel, for instance, halved my idle battery consumption on ICS. I went from consuming about 3-4%/hour when the phone was idle, to 1-2%/hour.

And to add one more question, for those on v2.5 is there a volume boost on external speaker?

I know JE78 will know ;)

Yes he does and unfortunately the answer is no. I did a dirty install of 2.5 though and I'm still having the deep sleep issues so i'm going to do a clean install today at some point and see if that clears up the deep sleep issue.

I had this too. I finally just did them one at a time and it worked. No idea why.

It seems like it will occasionally hang on random apps, if I force close TiBu and restart the "Restore all user apps" button, it will start with the app that it was hung on, and generally proceed without any problems. I think once I had to force close it a couple of times before it would work.

It's not really a show stopper, since there's a viable workaround, but it's certainly kind of annoying since I can't just hit "Restore" and leave my phone on the desk for the next however long it takes. Anyone know anything about getting TiBu logs?

Like outatime I haven't felt the need to flash something new as the stock linaro kernel is so good. It also deep sleeps like a baby for me without the need to gps lock on 2.4 which is nice. But I'm sure you relate to this addiction :p Franco, is snappier (I know how much snappier could JB be right?) than stock and at 1036MHz under-clocked. Battery life....too early to give accurate results, but I'm seeing better life with it than with stock, not by much though. Just one of those experimentation things ya know!

Deep Sleep is working much better on 2.5! Faster GPS lock as well, still about 20-25 seconds for me, but was double that before.

One thing I'm unclear on is how the baseband version I515.10 VFC04 / I515.FC05 compares with the ICS IMM76K? For me on JB 2.4 my signal strength is worse than on ICS IMM76K and more one way audio issues. Is that feasible?

Has anyone used a tethering app since jelly belly? I can't seem to get it to work. Flashed back to ICS and it works fine. If anyone is able to get it working, what app are you using? Besides that ... belly is working great. Just hate to flash back and forth just to use tethering.

Use the built in tethering it works fantastic for me....has since v1.6. A lot of people report issues when trying a 3rd party tether app. Settings> more> Tethering & Portable hotspot

Won't that go through Verizon though? I don't want to pay the extra $30 bucks

Nope. It's all contained on the phone, VZW won't get any notification.

That being said, they can certainly tell if you're tethering by inspecting the packets you're sending/receiving, but as long as you're not pushing GBs of data you're fine :). Also, new family share plans do not charge additional for tethering.

So initial thoughts on 2.5 are positive. Just did a 15 minute test, and deep sleep was 89%, my best by far. Battery does seem to be lasting longer too. Also phone ring is MUCH MUCH louder for me. :)

On another note, I got to try out Android Beam FINALLY, and its cool, but don't see myself using it too much. Maybe when my wife gets an NFC phone.

Also the beam was with my coworker's S3, and here is my comparison: Jelly Bean makes up for processor and then some. My phone was way faster and smoother than the S3 fresh out of the box. Oh, and no 4G for the S3 at my desk either, so phone envy is gone for a while :)

On to the razrHD right? :p

I don't know what the heck FedEx is doing with our S3. I've got all the dnld's ready to root it for my wife, they had a failed delivery attempt last Friday, they're normally here by this time of the day, and no S3....

Anti did ya check dbm's or just notice he had no 4gLTE icon on the S3 at your desk?

Whenever I try to log-in to the My Verizon Mobile app I get "Processing Your request has timed out please try again." on wifi. Trying to use it on 3g gets me "A free VZW connection is unavailable. Please try again later or login using wifi."

I think the Verizon specific apps have to be baked into the ROM in order for them to function right. A couple of the devs were including them in their ROMs for that reason.
