~new to android, need help with Wifi Please

ok I am TOTALLY new to 'fancy touch screen' phones. :eek:

I've just got my first, yep android virgin here lol :ciao:

I have a LG Optimus Zip, CDMA-V, Android 2.3, through Straight Talk.

I would like to be able to use the phone as a wifi hotspot for my laptop while I am in various meetings in places that don't have wifi. I'm not looking to use it daily, but it would make my life a lot easier if I could do it. I've tried a few things from the app market but none seem to work with my phone.

Can anyone recommend something that will work and is idiot friendly? :dontknow:

Does the phone support being a wireless hotspot? Go into 'All Settings/Wireless & networks' and look for 'wifi hotspot' or similar (I'm looking at an HTC when I give those menu settings - the LG could very well be different).

if theres no setting for wireless hotspot, you can run an app to make an adhoc hotspot.
wifi tether 3.1 supports adhoc mode.

Your service provider may not allow hotspotting or they may charge an additional fee for it. You'll have to call them to know for sure.
