Root 1984kbps!!speedtest.net results after a couple of tweaks

I have posted this before but I dont recall where,
You do not need to change rom to get diag mode
you can use terminal emulator, or adb shell and at the
# prompt use this
echo 1 > /sys/devices/virtual/usb_composite/diag/enable
Then when done restart phone or use
echo 0 > /sys/devices/virtual/usb_composite/diag/enable

1. Make a backup in CWM of your current setup
2. Flash Halfass or CTMod2.5 ROM
3. Access hidden menu ( that's why you need Halfass or CTMod2.5 ) and change PRL
4. Restore previously made backup

PS: Gotta check, what PRL is working best for you. As far as I understand, there are NO city specific PRL's... Just try several of them )
As I mentioned before you do not need to switch roms just to access hidden menu, use the commands in terminal emulator or in adb shell.

Or to update ota, once you have halfassrom or ct2.5, go to menu> settings> about phone> system updates> update prl
Yes to update prl through the phone you would need to change roms.
However you can google for any prl, all the boost, and sprint as well as any other carriers are readily available online.

Where can I find the "Terminal Commands" necessary ? And can it be done via a Terminal App right on the phone ONLY or do I still need to use adb together with the terminal commands ?

Read new optimus' post... he quoted himself with the terminal command
(And its either or)

Phone-Samsung Prevail-HalfAssRom-FF19
I have Samsung USB drivers (Samsung USB Driver for mobile phones v1.3.350.0.exe) installed on Vista and everything is fine till I reboot my phone in DM. When my phone reboots in DM, Vista tries to install drivers with no luck. I even tried to manually find the drivers in my windows/system32, & no luck.
I have tried to Oden back to stock and still no driver will load when in DM mode.
I want to try a different PRL but if Vista can't find a driver while my phone is is DM, CDMA Workshop has no port to use.
Does anyone have a clue?
Is there another driver?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

OK I've got some real issues :(

Followed TUT & enabled 4gv vocoder, tried two different sprint PRLs, did Build.prop tweaks, and IPV4 script.

Absolutely no difference!?

My Prevail has CM7 ROM
with P-A-Y-G plan & web add-on

I have 1xRTT most of the time (75%) Signal Strength= 84%+

If I reboot or refresh network with opensignalmaps I do get EVDO A for a little while; speed test (only when on 3G)-

7-23kbps DOWN, 23-41kbps UP

Tried 3G/4G speed optimizer
12/28/7; download speed increase
-No difference

PRLs tried 11115 & 60711

Question- do the Sprint prls give you better voice coverage/roaming yet restrict you to 2G data on Boost?

I note my PRL sometimes reads "default", but reads correct after reboot. Maybe Boost/Sprint recognizes phone and is throttling connection? Can you change PRL ID to appear as default?

Maybe it has to do with my P-A-Y-G plan; Boost might throttle P-A-Y-G to 2G with or without the daily web add-on? Is everyone else on the monthly unlimited plan; gotta be some HTC EVO uses on P-A-Y-G with same issue?

Greatly appreciate any help :D

Sprint prl will not affect your boost speed, personally I like sprint prl, while they may not do anything they have more towers and possibly a better priority.

the pay as you go without web might be your problem, if you can put it on a unlimited plan for a short time see if it changes anything.

If you have a good tower close to you your speed should be pretty blazing.

Thx Optimus!

When I subscribe to web add-on it does display the 3G icon 'bout 25% time opposed to 5% but the speeds are only a few kb more.

Might be the towers; or maybe Boost's not as dim as they sim and is throttling the pay-as-you-go data plan?

Might swap to monthly plan and see, or setup a galaxy tab the same way to see if its the prevail

I have rom toolbox and it has a build prop editor, can anyone tell me where do I paste it?

The build prop tweaks go after the last line. Just be sure to leave a blank line on the bottom after whatever you add... (not sure if it matters... but since there was one there... I figured its a good idea to leave it.)

Also, male sure you check the ret of the build.prop to make sure the lines haven't already been added/ or already exist with different values

Decided to check my build.prop again and it didn't seem that the changes took; so I edited my original backup and overwrote current.

Changes are now reflected in build.prop but I have no service with Roaming Indicator Flashing triangle?? :(

You're phone may have booted into 'safe mode' did you try a reboot?
If so, did you try removing the changes to see if you get service back? (Iirc the triangle indicated 'digital roaming' but since we can't roam... you just get no service instead :( )

Anyone know what line of code caused this issue?

I note that since making the build.prop changes, even though I now have no service I have been connected to the 3G network 100% of the time!

Can I kill digital roaming?
