i had a problem when i tried to get a friends phone to update went through downloaded it pasted it on sd card turned phone off hit the volume down and end key the hboot screen came up but then froze. it kinda looked like this. any ideas what i might have did wrong i did it the same way i did mine i m almost sure of it.

HBOOT

send ( for fast boot)
volume up (recovery)

Make sure that the SD card has been formatted by the Eris. I dropped the SD card from my old phone into my Eris and the update just wouldn't work. I then formatted and all was well.

the gallery is an app ported from the nexus one. its not part of the 2.1 for eris. i have it and it works wonderful however theres an FC issue when going directly to the camera. search for "gallery_flan.apk" it may say its for the Hero but it works on both

oh and the music app is a download from the market. hold on ill find it and post the link

Finally found it, lol -- thank you :)

Link to gallery_flan.apk 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download gallery_flan.apk

downloaded and worked perfectly (good file, no virus) - install using astro file manager

So I decided to attempt to download the file again....last week when I did it crashed and corrupted my pc so badly I had to do a complete system wipe and reinstall Windows. So, since I have nothing on the pc to loose this time I attempted to do it again, and what do you know, the file is "invalid or corrupt", also my Virus protection picked up on something while it was downloading.

Any reason why twice now this has happened? Seems to be a bad file. Any ideas?

I suggest you upgrade from here Debian -- The Universal Operating System

If you installed a leaked version of 2.1, will you still be able to install the official 2.1 (whenever it comes out)?

That question has been coming up since the leaks first appeared.

Even if it is not possible to receive the OTA, the software will likely be available via download in a similar fashion as the leaked versions. Perhaps even from a server at Verizon at some point.

Going to pick up my Eris in an hour or so. I've been following this thread for some time now, hoping that 2.1 will go OTA by the time I get mine but, since it is not, I am going to hold off on the leak. This is my first Android phone... hell, it's my first smartphone. Also my first HTC, as I've always had Motorola feature phones and Nokia basic phones in the past.

But I am curious to know if anyone has compiled a list of bugs that are common to serveral users, and forwarded the list to Google, Verizon, and HTC. After all, you guys are sort of unofficial testers and are doing a lot of their work for them. Perhaps all these bugs being reported on this forum are holding off the OTA while they try to iron them out? Either way, I'd be happier to wait for them to release a final version knowing that they've worked out everything you guys find.

.

This. It's getting to the point where I think this post should just pop up when people visit the Eris Forums.

Up and running now. My signal is MUCH better on this leak. 4 bars instead of 1. I still had the 50% without problem this morning, but in my case that may have been legitimate.

This build does take care of a few bugs, but it doesn't look to be that different from the previous build. If you are having serious signal problems on the original leak this may be your answer. I am going to do some more testing and report back, but this is what I have noticed so far:

Sign in problem is gone
Signal strength improved
Gmail images still not showing
Links in apps still dead
Google voice still not dialing properly on 3.2
Missing apps are still missing
Speed is still good

Has anyone found a fix or work around for the dead links in apps? Searched but couldn't find anything definitive.

Thx

EDIT: NM I found this thread that i have subscribed to now...

so who likes the version of 2.1 on the first page better than the original leaked one? Are there any newer ones out since the one on the first page of this thread? Any major problems?

I have been waiting for 2.1 since December and i believe it will come but i am tired of waiting. Is one of these versions worth downloading? Any negative side affects? I would rather not read all 1000 posts, i just want to know what has been established through this thread about the 2.1 leaks and weather or not they are worth it. Thanks

First time poster here; I got my ERIS last Wednesday and while searching for Accessories on Friday, this thread came up. I read a bit that night then dove back in on Saturday night and after about an hour of reading (only got to page 7 of the thread), decide to take the plunge. I have not experienced any of the bugs discussed here, maybe because my phone was nearly new so still in pristine state. In any case, I love the user interface and its great being able to access both of my Gmail accounts without having to use IMAP for one of them.

I can

Okay... this bugger really IS faster! I'm pretty impressed. But I do have one new problem. I'm sure it's been addressed but I couldn't find it with search and I don't remember seeing it.

People seems to have only imported my Facebook contacts through "R". So... anyone whose first name starts with A-R will automatically link, but my Google contacts named S-T can't find a matching Facebook profile. When I try to manually link the profiles, I scrolled to the bottom of the list of Facebook names, and that's how I saw that the list cuts off at "R".

I tried going into Accounts & Sync and refreshed Facebook, but there was no change.

Ideas?

SOLVED

I removed my facebook for sense account from accounts and sync and then re-added it. I had to re-enter my email and password and wait for it to sync up again. This time it synced completely after several minutes. Something must have interrupted or canceled the process early on after I finished installing the update.

Can someone please make a list of all bugs with 2.1v2.
v2 is the latest? right.
Also there was a thread of how to return to stock 1.5, I believe. Can some post that link to if it still active. I can not find it. Thx in advance to who ever post the answer to my question.
Theres a stickied thread at the top of the forums - you'll have to sift through it a bit. And no, there's no way to get back to 1.5 from 2.1.

Finally got my Eris Monday. I almost can't wait for the 2.1 OTA but I really don't want to risk screwing up this phone.I want Google Navigation more than anything else. How is it running for all you with various leaked versions?
I've only used it a couple times, but so far it's been very good. The GPS is very accurate and the turn-by-turn directions were correct, although the voice is not as smooth as my other units.

One thing I really like about it is it's very easy to enter a destination. My other GPS units (built in Mazda & Garmin) are not nearly as user friendly and I suspect it's the power of Google maps making the difference.

Reinstalling all my apps now... good thing I'm good at using my laptop with one hand!

Hey Chop. Just wondering how you were able to reinstall your apps after updating. I have a couple of games (some in beta) that I have downloaded and am currently testing and I was worried that if I installed the new 2.1 leak or if the OTA finally came out that these games and apps would be lost and I would have to pay for them again. No one has given a straight answer. If I update, how can I keep these apps without having to pay for them all over again? I had Baseball Superstars (full paid version) on my 1.5 Eris and when I upgraded to 2.1 original leak I lost it (I think). Anyways, any help or a basic walk-through for future reference would be great. Thanks.

Hey Mortal, the navigation and GPS on my 2.1 original leak works perfect. Besides having to sign-in to google after reboot (which is a rare occasion) I have not noticed too many bugs with the 2.1 leak. I play games, watch movies, scan for police, navigate, and many other things and I am extremely satisfied with how much smoother and quicker the 2.1 runs compared to 1.5. Especially being able to watch Youtube videos (even in HD!!!). I couldn't even watch any when running 1.5. Everyone is great about answering questions in these forums and I wouldn't have learned as much as I have without their help. I love 2.1 and besides the fact that I can't root I am not the least bit sorry that I updated when the original 2.1 leak came out. Although, I am considering going to the Nexus One or Incredible if the OTA isn't available soon. Just my 2 cents. Good luck. :D
